By way of an update I re-installed my copy Navigon Vn4 and within seconds was receiving notifications. Installed Destinator and still no notifications. Checked the COM port in both and both showing COM 1 with baud rate of 34500.
Heard nothing back from Destinator or Trafficmaster or my supplier so now completely stumped as to why TMC is not working on my Medion MDPPC250 with Navigon GPS/TMC receiver.
Any other help or suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks.

Seems to be that the smartphone version has TMC, but the PDA version does not (unless you buy Trafficsam which is STILL not released)
After the mess that Destinator is making over this, I am tempted to wait for Navigon 6 - but there is not a release date yet, but is quoted as the summer |

you are lucky!
According to Destinator support it should not work?
Do you know if you are getting updates from ItIS or TM? |

Spoke to Destinator on Friday after no response to my e-mail. Person I spoke to could not understand why it was not working. Only concern he had was that my Navigon receiver had not been tested on Destinator so this may be the problem. Was going to speak to tech department and suggested I wait for response to my e-mail, which he could not find on queue so thought was being dealt with by someone!!! |

Just had the following response from Destinator...
Quote: | Hello.
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
We would like to kindly inform you that the only way how to recieve TMC messages in England is to be in hold of a license as this service isn´t free of charge in UK.
Appearently, the company Navigon has integrated a license for this service to the total price of the software.
What i recommend is to purchase later the license for Traffic Sam or TMC PRO which will include free TMC diffusion in UK France and Germany with absolutely reliable information.
For more information about TRaffic Sam or TMC PRO please visit our home page www.destinatortechnologies.com
Please feel free to contact us for any further information.
Answered emails are not archived by us. Please send us the correspondence already led in case of further questions.
kind regards

So looks like the information in advertising material is "wrong" for UK |

A little confusing - Navigon have a license with Trafficmaster, and Trafficmaster explicitly list Desinator as a product that can receive TMC information from Trafficmaster... |

I have Destinator 6 ( not trafficsam) running on my pda with integrated GPs/TMC receiver and i can confirm I am receiving free to air rds/tmc announcements.
I live in the London area and on looking at the TMC screen at various times have have picked up announcements from Classic FM, Capital Radio and Smooth radio down here.
I do not have any licence for Trafficmaster.
So it is possible to pick up RDS transmissions that are broadcast by FM radio stations, sometimes it can take 10 mins for the FM scanner to find one though !!
Regards

Update from Destinator received yeserday...

Hello.
Thank you very much for your e-mail.
Very happy news, this proves that TMC service is now covering the UK area. I´ve neve meant Destinator isn´t integrating TMC. It is evidently one of the basic function offered from our software.The reason for that could be the device you´re using which seems identical in construction to th HP 1940.
Please make a hard reset then reinstall the software and check under file explore -sd-mmc card 2577 that TMC.cab application is executed.
if not please double click on it to install it.
|
I followed the instructions but TMC.cab had already been run so it made no difference.
chippie_w, this started me digging around on my PDA and looking in destinator.ini for clues. There is a section which relates to TMC, mine is shown below, how does this compare with the destinator.ini on your system?
TMC_=1
TMC_AUTO_SEARCH=1
TMC_FREQUENCY=91.
TMC_PORT=0
TMC_BAUD=38400
TMC_PROVIDER=0
TMC_DATA=771
TMC_TRAFFIC_ALERT=1
TMC_ACCIDENTS_ALERT=1
TMC_CONSTRUCTIONS_ALERT=0
TMC_WEATHER_ALERT=0
TMC_INFO_ALERT=0
TMC_AUTO_AVOIDANCE=0
TMC_EFFECTIVE_RADIUS=200
Thanks. |

A few differences maybe the crucial one is TMC_provider
TMC_frequency is probably the last freq it locked onto which i believe is Capital Radio down here
Hope that helps

Thanks chipie_w.
May try forcing TMC in the .ini file to see if that makes a difference.

Hey Lowie
From the TMC tuner screen, where you see the system scrolling through the frequencies, if you click on either the double right arrow or the double left arrow this makes the system look for the next station and you will see its name Classic FM Radio 1 etc. All of the stations which are found this way are not TMC stations just all of the stations the tuner finds.
Hope this helps.
