I have noticed a severe deterioration of the side grips on my H2210 - i.e. they keep dropping off! I had this problem some time ago and had the grips replaced under warranty from HP. However constant inserting of the H2210 into the TomTom holder has taken its toll on these side grips and I need to find a more permanent solution - I seem to recall that this was discussed here some time ago and replacement aluminium grips were mentioned - anyone had any experience of these and where/how much to buy etc? Any info would be useful - many thanks.

Tom

P.S. I had a sniff on ebay and see that some people are advertising something similar but don't know whether it is crap or not!

Hi tom9851
I too have a 2210 and although the 2210 it is one of the best PDAs for Tomtom it does suffer the side-grip problem. I am afraid I cant help you with your predicament but I will be watching your topic with interest. With luck a reply will come in with a solution that will help both of us.

I bought a Crystal case for my 2210. This holds the machine snugly and you do not affect the side grips when putting it in and out of the holder. I found that the touch screen didn't work however so I used a hot knife and cut out the part covering the screen, now works a treat. Smile

On my 2210 I used the simplest solution of all. I just peeled off the rubber layer when it came loose. :D

There is no obvious difference to the look of it and I've had no problems with gripping it.

Had the same experience with my 2210 side grips. Original ones fell apart in 6 months, free replacements from HP lasted about a year.
I then forked out for the PPC Techs metal ones, which I bought in the UK through Expansys. They've been great, no problems and I suspect they'll outlive the rest of the unit. My only qualm is with the price of them. Don't know if you'll find a better deal on them elsewhere.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have just been looking at the metals ones being sold by Expansys - yes they look really good but at nearly 25 quid I think, at least for now, I will do what pendlemac has done and peel off the remaining rubber from the grips and just use them "bare" for now - the pda is still held snugly in the TomTom holder so I guess that will be ok for now. A pretty crap design effort from HP I think!

Cheers

Tom

By the way.. I phoned HP's Customer Services line today on 0870-8422339 and told the man that my 2210 was well out of warranty (by at least a year!) and told him that HP had already kindly replaced the side grips once under warranty but they had now given up the ghost - could he suggest anything - no problem he says... " I will post out a new pair free of charge!"
Nice one - good old HP!

I bought a pair of rubber grips from ebay for about £9 and they are indistinguishable from the originals from HP. I posted the link on this forum when someone asked a few months ago - I think it still works

Just go to the HP page for the number and ring their customer support. They know there's a problem with the side grips and they seem quiet willing to send replacements out. I did it although my 2210 was well over the warranty period and they said no problem. Worth a try Wink
