|
|
Wondering if anyone knows of a way to disable the "legal notice" page that comes up when I start TT5 (the green one, where you have to hit "I agree" in the lower right). Would be much nicer if it went straight to the app!
Thanks in advance.. |

I understand it only displays this warning when it failed to read from the SD/CF card (or is still initiating the application). It displays this message in order to be able to finish reading the card before the user can interact with the application. |

Do you have a legitimate copy of TT? No offence meant but cracked versions sometimes exihibit this problem I understand. _________________ Peter

In a normal installation this notice only appears during the initial set-up, it does not appear every time the application is launched. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I got this occasionally and like gekko say it is always related to a card error in my case. Occasionally the OS does not see the SD card. Stop Tomtom, remove and re seat the card and I am fine. Change the name of the 2577 folder on the SD card to stop Tomtom autorun when the card is inserted. I have recently backed up the card and formatted again now this issue does not occur. |

I get this everytime the app is launched with my legit copy!
When I first installed and tested it it didn't, but I guess this might tie in with my problems re missing GB map (I have only been using the US map since installing).
Got it every time I started the app on my recent trip to the US. |

I am going to wipe my entire PDA and all cards to give it a clean up and try and get the GB map back.
Will see if this also gets rid of this message too.
My factory nav in the car shows a similar warning though every time I start the engine and it's just as annoying. |

Isn't it just ? Mine..(Honda), comes on twice, once with the ignition on, and then it goes off while turning the engine on, and then back on. What a c*** system they put in cars ? Mine was a 'so called' freebie. I certainly wouldn't pay good money....four figures plus, for on board rubbish like that. Thank goodness for the flexibility of my PDA system. When will the motor industry catch up with the stand alone systems ? |

I wonder ho wlong before TomTom team up with a manufacturer to get them factory fitted. Easily updated and fuller featured.
My system in th ecar was well into 4 figures! That said I was more impressed with some of it's routing that that of TomTom. Though it has much fewer features. |

Hiya,
@jgirard:
can it be that you dont shut down TT properly? This probelm often occurs when you just press the on/off Button on the PPCwhile TT is still running and if u turn the PPC off while TT is still writing Data on the SD-Card (*.cfg-file)
To end TT its recommended to touch the screen and skip to the last page and then press the icon for finishing TT. Then wait some seconds till you turn the PPC off.
This doesnt have to do anything with legal or illegal - its just the way it is
- we often have this problem in the german pocketnavigation-Forum, and the problem is always that the user doesnt turn off TT the recommended way.

Can't remember where I read this, but I thought it was something that the US maps did - I'm guessing to protect TomTom from letigeous Americans from trying to sue them when they crash using their Sat Nav.
Cheers,
Steve. |

This still seems to be a problem. Is there a solution yet?
From this thread, we still don't know if TomTom is discriminating against North Americans, or if there's a technical flaw. Have any Americans seen the legal notice only once?
Has anyone tried using the European software version with US maps as a fix? |

I have a legally purchased, registered version of TomTom Navigator running the North American (US) maps on my Palm TX.
Every time I start TomTom the warning screen comes up. All of my research and reading indicates that you can not disable this screen.
I think this is pretty close to the truth:

You may be right gsbravo, but here's why I think you might be wrong...
GPS systems are no doubt a distraction. However, the legal notice itself requires the users attention - and is one more thing that could cause a disaster. Even worse, unlike all the other features of the tool, the legal notice is the one unnecessary distraction in the system, which makes TomTom even more liable for damages. So from a legal standpoint, it's actually senseless for TomTom to add an additional distraction - particularly in the US where they could easily be sued. If the TomTom legal dept was really foolish enough to make the legal notice permanent, I would only hope to see them get sued for introducing a distraction that puts drivers at greater risk, and causes someone damage.
As a practical matter, I find the legal notice the single most distracting feature of the whole system - because often I need to re-enter the software, and I find myself staring at the screen - waiting for the legal notice to appear - when I should be looking at the road. Every other distraction in the software is momentary and lasts a split-second.
I'm going to bet that the lawyers are not that stupid - and that this is a technical flaw. |
