Garmin have released version 2.9 of the firmware a jump from 2.7 - whatever happened to 2.8??
Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.90:
* Add feature to save active track log to file on data card.
* Add ability to utilize mass storage on PC via USB connection.
* Fix NMEA output to include GPGSV sentence.
* Improve Garmin USB Mac support.
There still appears to be version 2.71 available as a beta - which is now included in 2.9 i.e save track log to data card
I have loaded 2.9 appears to work OK.

I have also installed this update and it works well.
Other posts on a different website have been using these specific additions as the unit becomes a card reader!

"Add translucent data background for data fields above the map."
Ive contacted Garmin twice about this idea but still no answer.
I have also the Garmin GPS10 and they incorporated this function in the software Que (used in PocketPC) in one of the updates.
It would be a great benefit it you can use the data field and still being able of seeing the map in the "background" of the datafields... As the screen of the 60CSx is rather small this will at least keep the fysical size intact.
Hmm.. anyone else using 60CSx contacting Garmin and asking for this function would surely speed things up making this one of the news in next update?

Kincop, I agree with your suggestion. I use the GPS10 version of Que on my Toshiba e800, driving it over a Garmin-mode serial connection from my 60CSx. It is interesting to compare what you see on each device. Even with two data fields in map view on the 60CSx, the advantage of a transparent mode is apparent, and with four it would be even more so.
Another small firmware enhancement that I have seen suggested and would be pleased to see is to be able to choose GPS Elevation as a data field. On the 60CSx the only place to find it is in the stellite view menu. It is valuable if you are allowed to use a gpsr on a commercial pressurised aircraft.
2.90 is working well for me, and I use both new features. I have also been pleased with receiver chipset firmware 2.60, recently released, which sorts out some WAAS problems (haven't seen any EGNOS differences) and fixes the WAAS/EGNOS tunnel problem. |
