I've now upgraded to 5.450 again, as I managed to get my data.chk file sorted to allow my 'Vicky Archer' spoken camera warnings. Apart from the screen brightness, I haven't noticed any change from 5.420. As for my clock, it's working fine and does not reset each time I turn off. I'm wondering if there is something else that has changed in the newer models which causes some kind of conflict with the software ? _________________ Tommo...

I might be missing something - I can find the "standard" voice download for the Speed cameras but not the voices for Liz Whitaker or Vicki Archer - where are these? |

They are accessed via Ray Flannagan's site...

I think you need to DL them from here:

Problem is, for the 5.450 they don't seem to be listed yet. |

Yes, I think the latest are for 5.42, but there are ways and means. I have got Vicky Archer on 5.45 now. I can't remember how I did it, but I'll work it out and post it. It was using an edit programme and all you need is your original data.chk file and you can change all the beeps, bugles etc to the downloaded voices. _________________ Tommo...

Has anyone had this problem with 5.42. I'm running 5.45 on a brand-new unit and have the problem.
Is it possible to revert to 5.42 on a unit which was supplied with 5.45 ? |

Got it.....
I downloaded soundpatcher from HERE then downloaded all the Vicky Archer 22050Hz voice warnings from the bottom of THIS PAGE.
Once you have it all, you simply run the POI soundpatcher programme, select your own data.chk file, then select the appropriate Vicky sounds from the ones you downloaded, into the appropriate fields on soundpatcher and create your new data.chk file.
Once you have all the sounds, every time there is an update, you can alter the new data.chk file with your chosen sounds. If you can sample sounds, you can create your own warning sounds, as long as you sample them at 22050Hz and save them as .ogg files.

Ok, I think I have a fix for the clock problem now.
I'd spent hours experimenting with various resets to no avail, and had resigned myself to the fact that I had a hardware problem and I was going to return the unit to the store.
I thought I should phone TomTom support, even though people seem to have tried this before and weren't particularly complimentary of the service received.
As soon as I explained the problem to the TomTom support guy (in fact before I had finished explaining it) he said that it was a know problem that many people are experiencing and that hasn't been fixed yet. He said the workaround was as follows:
* Choose "Reset Factory Settings" in the config page.
* Before doing anything else, reset the unit by pushing a pin into the reset hole and hold this in place for 10 seconds.
* Repower the unit.
To my amazement everything now works OK. Note that you will lose favourites, configuration settings and Home location (but not POIs and POI warning configuations).
I just thought I'd share this in case it helped anyone else |

I didn't have to return to factory settings. A reset with the pin made the clock work, and I didn't lose my settings etc. |

I have tried 3-4 times to create my own data.chk file but 3 of the original files stay as they are, (I think it was Bell 1,2 and 3). All of the Liz Whittaker files play ok, so they are not faulty.
Any suggestions please.

It worked first time for me with the Vicky files, although I didn't try Liz. I will give it a shot with those and see if that works. _________________ Tommo...
