Hi Peter,
Well it's certainly more recent than mine
I think the latest firmware reports 3.1.1 in the first line (mine is 3.1.0) and v5 in the last line (mine is v4).
So you probably don't need a USB data cable, which seems to be 19.98 UKP including VAT and shipping from Clove Technolgy to Denmark.
Cheers, Alan. _________________ Garmin GPS72H/76/60/45, Etrex H, Mapsource v6.5.

Good news - thank you soo much for your help.
I think I'll just PM Julie from Holux just in case to check, but it sounds right what you are saying.
Thanks

Peter,
Yes you've got the latest version, think I must have been unlucky to get older stock than yours. That's what I see after the upgrade. I had 3.1.0 before. |

I just got mine from Nav4all today, and cannot get a fix. I have the old firmware:
$PSRFTXTVersion GSW3.1.0-SDK_3.1.00.07-C24P1.00 *46
$PSRFTXTTOW: 0*09
$PSRFTXTWK: 1313*49
$PSRFTXTPOS: 6378137 0 0*06
$PSRFTXTCLK: 96250*09
$PSRFTXTCHNL: 12*5F
$PSRFTXTBaud rate: 4800 System clock: 1124.403MHz*5E
$PSRFTXTVersion 236V4 * *4A
This is my second 236. The first had a bluetooth problem, so I returned it to the ebay seller I bought it from, and now this one cannot get a fix. The first unit got a fix within seconds. It was a newer serial number 236-6110 XXX. I may end up returning the nav4all unit and getting a replacement rather than refund from teh ebay seller.
I am a little sucpicious that the nav4all units are refurbished, considering the vary variable firmware, and variable performance reported from other users. It would also explain the lack of retail packaging, mains charger and the low price.
Anyhow, I PM'ed Julie from Holux, so may try a firmware upgrade to try to fix it.

I finally got a fix this morning, so I'll be monitoring performance. I still have my doubts about the Nav4all units, as to whether they are B-grade stock.

Hi All,
I have checked with Holux in Tiawan and the stock that Nav4All is not refurb. They simply have got the old firmware onboard. If you are having problems please contact Nav4All who should be able to offer the firmware to you.
If you are still having trouble please feel free to drop me a line & I'll help as best I can.
Cheers,
Julie |

How? I tried upgrading through Bluetooth using SirfDemo/SirfFlash without success and had to use the USB cable instead!

I saw on a german site that the last firmware version for Holux 236 is 6.1. Is it true? |

is it just for the updates you need a special cable as I've connected mine to my PC using a standard mini usb cable and it's always worked fine as a wired device |

Hi Adam,
That's very surprising as the Holux236 doesn't use a USB interface (protocol) on its connector. The "standard" cable is only for charging the battery. The only way I can see it working is if (one of the following):
- Your "standard" mini USB cable actually includes a USB-serial converter "dongle" (like the "special" Holux cable).
- It's actually communicatting with the PC via Bluetooth.
- It's not a Holux 236.
Or has anyone any other ideas?
