Hi
Text to speech is something I'd like (especially for the wife), but I'm hesitant to pay TT910/Nuvi360 prices when I only need UK maps.
I'm trying out the Sony U50 at the moment, as part of my quest for a good satnav. I was surprised when it named the roads to turn into. Granted, it was only numbered roads - eg "turn left onto the A-3-0-8", but I think thats probably enough, as my wife really only has trouble with roundabouts etc and usually they are major routes.
I'd prefer a TT or Nuvi I think, as they have bluetooth support and speed camera support.
So my question is - does the TT510 (or 710) do this limited TTS, or does it just do 'turn left in 100 yards'? |

Only the 910 has TTS, all the others use .wav files e.g. 'Turn Left in 300yards' etc. _________________ Darren Griffin |

just to clarify, TT510/710 won't say 'turn right in 200 yards onto the A308'?
I don't want to mix up terminlogy, as I assume the sony is also using wavs (only needs numbers). |

The 910 will say 'Turn left into High Street in three hundred yards', all the rest will say Turn Left in 300 yards'.
ONLY the 910 has Text To Speech. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Until someone hacks it! (The 510/710 seem to be physically capable of it...) |

This has already been hacked, long ago. You can get TTS to work on any 510 or 700 , maybe even 500, given enough space and limiting yourself to just one voice (400 MB) _________________ Lutz

Indeed so but this is unlikely to be legal. The OP was asking about the availability of TTS in certain models, until such time as it is available either as an option or standard then the answer remains, only the 910 comes with TTS. _________________ Darren Griffin |
