Hi guys
This is a longshot I know, but worth a try.
I own an Ariel Atom track car and would like to use my PDA (an MDAIII) for recording performance info e.g. lap timings, 0 to 60, 0 - 100, via GPS.
I know there are dedicated units designed to do just this but! I use my MDAIII for phone, mp3, SatNav (TT5). It's 'plumbed into my Autocom intercom system so it would be great if I could use it for race timing and the like.

The largest problem to overcome is the data update rate from the GPS unit, most only offer an output once per second, they are therefore unsuitable for motor sport activities, where you want timing accuracy of certainly 0.01 second or better. The was a unit mentioned on the forum some time back that gave four outputs per second, but even this will only resolve to 0,25 seconds.
There are a number of posts on the forums asking similar questions, one or two have a reply detailing how to do this using data acquisition products, bespoke software etc - very costly to implement, if you want more details on this type of set-up either drop me an e-mail or PM, but it will only use GPS data for calibration of the system - Mike
