Hi,
Just had my HP 4700 stolen - should I just replace it or would you recommend a newer model ?

Hi DinAlt,
I’m sorry to hear about the theft of your 4700!
Personally, I don’t rate the 4700 for SatNav – I prefer the discontinued 2210. However if you like the 4700 then you could either replace it, or have a look at the current models.
Did you use the 4700 solely for SatNav? If you did, have you considered using a PND instead?

Actually I have a 2210 already - my wife uses it in her car
I don't use the 4700 purely for satnav - it's my diary, address book and I use it to read e-books when I travel by train/use the underground.
I was wondering if the new 2790 etc were better - I've tried WM 5 on the 4700 and downgraded back to WM3 - it's far too slow (probably because of the VGA screen). I suspect i'll buy another 4700 - £400 down the swanny (after I've added a decent CF card and a case...)

Check to see if you have All Risks on your home insurance, you may well be covered. Not sure about if it was stolen from your car but if it was stolen elsewhere or you simply lost it, you should be covered. You'll need a police incident report number to pass on to your insurance. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
