|

Hi, just out of interest.
wanted to know if the nuvi 360 software would work on the nuvi 310 and the difference as far as i know is the map
360 = comes with 2GB and a map of whole of europe and also comes with text to speech feature. everything else is the same.
im intrestest in the text to speech feature, all the hardware is the same in both models. so the text to speech feature is software based.
so say the FULL firmware of 360 would it work on 310 with the added benefit of text to speech feature?????
the map might be slighty different to incorporate the feature.
any opinons or views??? |

This has been discussed here before in relation to the Nuvi 300 /350. There has been proved to be no technical reason why the 300 (and presumably the 310) cannot use the Text To Speech (TTS) capability. Some people tried loading the TTS voices into the 300 and they then worked even with the 300 firmware. Unfortunately in release 2.70 (or somewhere about that) Garmin put something into the software that specifically disables the TTS voices if it detects it is running on a 300 not a 350. Somebody did try running the 350 firmware on a 300 but this made no difference. The only thing you can do is complain to Garmin that they will not sell you an upgrade to TTS for the 300/310 - if enough people make enough fuss about it then perhaps they will give in and agree to sell it. |

intresting stuff,
The Gamin Langauge Guide uses the TTS/text to speech feature and is available on SD card.
Now if say i get that langauge pack and download the software of nuvi 360, do you guys reckon it will start working as the TTS feature it is enabled on the langauge pack.
PS: if i did try the firmware, would it mess up the nuvi or can a easyly go back to original firmware???? can anyone confirm this???

You can download the tts voices from Garmin but you will need to flash the firmware to 360,if the flash works thats another question. It has been done flashing a 350 firmware to 300.
Thats the chance you take.Do you feel lucky?

To be honest, I don't think you will get TTS on a 300/310 however you try. |

According to gpspassion forums it has to be flashed to an early firmware release to enable tts.Garmin disabled it in later firmwares
