|
|
I have a tomtom one which is about a month old, with the usual GB map that is provided.
I have to fly to Switzerland tomorrow and then drive back to London for work. Obviously some nav assistance would be fantastic.
Now then, my first question is, does my map include the major European roads, as claimed by the tomtom website, or is that just the new maps for new GO's.
Second question, can anyone recommend a high street vendor that can help me out at a sensible price for the European maps.
Finally, how can I make sure that I get the latest versions.
Thanks for your help. Kind regards, Dave. |

No. The ONE comes with GB only Map. You need the GB-Plus Map.

Never tried that. I don't think you can download a GB-Plus Map from TomTom. Don't know about the High Street.

Now there's a minefield. There's been a lot of Posts concerning the latest versions. The real answer is, you can't. Sorry ![Sad](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ Richard

Oldboy's beaten me to it again while I was surfing for an answer.
You can download the GB map + MRE from the TomTom site http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/mds.php for e59.95 or Maps of Western Europe (including GB) for e119.95, probably the best choice if you want e.g. France and Switzerland where it would cost 2 x e59.95.
Having said that I find the coverage of MRE far better than I expected in France, not sure about Switzerland.
The e = Euro because I can't find the key to get the Euro sign. ![Sad](modules/Forums/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif) _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

The € key on a UK keyboard can usually by obtained by holding down the 'ALT Gr' while you press 4 (on the normal keypad, above the letters) or by holding down the ALT key while you type 0128 on the numeric keypad - the € sign will appear as the '8' key is relesed |

I will soon be travelling from the UK through France to my holiday in spain.
What maps do I need for this and what would be the cheapest way of doing it?
I dont need coverage in France other than the roads to get me to Spain.....
Also will I need a new memory card, if so what size and where from? Any idea on cost.
Sorry for so many questions, just Im not very technologically advanced. |

On your keyboard, you can also hold down Ctrl and Alt (both on the left side) at the same time, and then press 4. Just depends which you find more comfortable. |

TomTom maps come in PLUS and Standard versions. The Plus ones cover the major roads of Europe.
The map(s) you require, will depend upon whether you already have any PLUS maps. |

ATM I just have what came with the unit, so just the basic UK map Im guessing?
So if I got the france map does that have all the main roads in europe on it? What sort of level of detail does this go down to? Would I be able to use it to navigate to towns in spain?
Many thanks

Any Plus Map will have Major Roads of Europe so France does not, but France Plus does, just as GB does not, but GB Plus does. |

If as you said you only need the roads to get through France, then, unless you intend to travel in France another time, the French Plus maps would be a waste of money.
As to whether or not the major roads of Europe would be suficient for your travels in Spain - well that would depend on where you intend to go, and where your town is located - it really is a much reduced map, and even if it got you to the Town, is unlikely to get you to your location (unless it is on one of the major roads) For Example, I quickly checked on a mates Plus map, and only found 60 streets for Toledo.
If you intend to tour around when you arrive, it is unlikely to be sufficient. |

As you have the ONE you will have GB maps. All you need is the Spain plus map, which should fit a a 512MB card.
Before leaving home, choose Spain + map, and enter your destination. This will guide you on the MRE through GB and France and once entering Spain, you will have street level.
But you must take into account that at present each map is around €60, if you want France and Spain, you may as well get European mapping inc GB for around €120. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
