Twice to me.
1st time. Inside lane, having come off the A2, approaching ramp told to take the exit, I didn't, and saw it had tried to route me 'up and over'. Then when I moved out to go through the 'auto toll' booths, was told to keep left. I decided to follow the instruction, for a laugh, to see if I would be put through the left hand tunnel but after moving over a few lanes, was told to keep right.
2nd time. In lane three, no instruction to take the exit to sliproad, but got the instruction to keep left, when approaching the booths, which I ignored this time.
I'm not sure if the route it had set from home (Rainham, Kent - Stanford-Le-Hope, Essex) made any difference, and can't see why it should, but I'll check again when I next travel that way. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

If you are stupid enough to ask it for the shortest route that is what you will get, the shortest route.
I never considered my self stupid, but there you go.
I Use my TomTom for recreational riding on my motorcycle, and nearly always choose shortest route. The reason I do this is to stay as far away from Motorways, Dual and 'A' roads, as possible. Using this setting (in conjunction with itinerary planning, and avoid selections) I have discovered places I would never have seen had I used alternative settings or a map, and yes this includes having to negotiate fords & gates.
I fully agree that anyone who blindly follows inappropriate instructions from a box of silicone, needs to re-evaluate their priorities. But please don't give TomTom an excuse to drop this functionality. I like the option to ask for stupid routes when I want them. :D

Unfortunately, SatNav has now become mainstream, so by the law of averages, there are a lot of idiots out there using it blindly, and following those 'stupid routes'.
As for giving TomTom an excuse, if too many idiots continue to follow those routes, they may be forced into a position where they have no option, but to remove that function, or significantly qualify it.
It is my opinion that a true 'shortest route' has little place in a mass market product, but needs to be qualified.
I appreciate that you obtain a lot of pleasure from the 'stupid routes' and I can perfectly understand why, but, would your enjoyment be spoiled if those roads became overcrowded with idiots thinking they were on a short-cut?
As for opinions on this site, I think that all of us must accept that the percentage of 'enthusiasts' to 'consumers' is totally different to that as a whole, and what enthusiasts may want, may differ considerably from what the majority of users want.
