Hi
I too have the new shiny version and again I like the way it looks etc.
So I tried the process etc and found that when I tried to convert the files in the console it came up with language not installed or something along those lines, must admit to guessing abit as I am at work at the mo.
I am more than likely doing something wrong but what I ask?
Any info for this would be great
Cheers

You have to use the console to convert the csv files into dat files - but don't bother using the console to try to upload these to the unit - it will fail with the error message you mention. Locate the converted files (dat files) on your hard drive, then copy these to the correct place on the device using the explore option in ActiveSync
I will put a tutorial on this process (which is pretty easy once you realise what is going on) and post this here and on my website at http://gps400.accline.co.uk

What the problem is that Packard Bell are now shipping GPS400's with software v5.5 but are still supplying Installation CD's with Console for v5.1.

5.5 has a different directory structure to 5.1

On 5.1 the Favourites folder is DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites

On 5.5 the Favourites folder is DestinatorApps\Destinator\UserData\Favorites

So when Console for 5.1 tries to install the favourites it cannot find the installation directory and trough’s up the language error.

Their are 2 ways around this

Option 1

In your GPS400's destinatorapps/destinator directory you create a new directory called common, within that directory you create another directory called Favorites

So you will have

DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Favorites

And

DestinatorApps\Destinator\UserData\Favorites

You then use console to convert and install to the first directory then use explorer to move all the files into the second

It’s a bit long winded but it does work.

Option 2

Use console as normal but just select the convert option of loading your POI file

This will create a DAT file of the same name as your POI.

Do not use the down load option as it will delete the DAT file.

One you have created all your DAT files use explorer to move them from the

C:\Program Files\DestinatorApps\Collection\Console\IndepIndep\Favorites

directory to the DestinatorApps\Destinator\UserData\Favorites directory on your unit.

Either way works and will do until Packard Bell get their act in order and start supplying the correct software

Good stuff Paul80 - your workarounds for the old console / new firmware are good and until we can all get our hands on a Console for firmware 5.5 it looks like we lucky people with the latest firmware will have to live with this ludicrous situation.

Why can't Packard Bell simply post updates for the Console and firmware on their website? Madness and deeply damaging to their reputation you would think.

I wonder what the legalities are regarding someone who has firmware version 5.5 and comes across an illegal download site offering console 5.5? (purely hypothetical and rhetorical question - I should be so lucky as to find such a download).

I will grab the bones of your workarounds and put them on my GPS400 site at http://gps400.accline.co.uk (with full credit to you of course) - hope this is OK!

There is a console v5.5 on this site

http://www.grundig-automotive.de/index.php?id=53&L=3%20

It is for Grundig PNA

I had a quick look but couldn't get it to work, I have not had the time to play with it to find out why.

If you get time and have any luck let me know.

Good find. It installs OK on my PC - not plucked up the courage to install to the unit yet (as I know if it goes wrong, I will have to re-install all my personallised updates etc.).
Will try it as soon as I get a mo and post to this forum my findings

OK - it works on the PC and the uploaded Destinator DG works on the GPS400 - but refuses to recognise the Sirf Star III chips - says no GPS device etc.
It allows you to upload POIs but these are in the wrong folders for when you switch back to a working Destinator ND
Catch 22
It shows that Navteq could easily update our Destinator firmware and consoles, but basicaly can't be arsed to do so - Packard Bell likewise.
The DestinatorDG on the GPS400 looks only slightly different to my DestinatorND 5.5 -it has quick access buttons on the map page for night mode and 2D mode, otherwise looks identical.
POI uploads work once you have installed DestinatorDG, but the folder structure is once again different to DestinatorND - all a bit of a bloody nuisance really. Better off uploading manually.
Cheers from a miffed Commsman now re-configured my GPS400 back to a working system after all this mucking about..

Hi Scottwaltonuk

If you are using version 5.1 you want WAV files

If you are using version 5.5 you want SPX files

Once loaded with either version you have to activate them in the favorite menu, you also set the warning distances in this menu.

Dont forget that the sound file has to named exactly the same as the DAT file for it to work.

ie Gatso.dat and Gatso.wav, (gatso.wav and gaTso.wav and GATso.wav} are not the same

what version off Destinator is this for please
timanfiya wrote:
That all depends on whether or not your version runs as it should do. It will tell you in your instruction manual what catergories can have alerts.

I have destinator Op and can get alerts on any catergory that is created but all my alerts and settings are the same for all catergories. I should only be able to get alerts in catergories named:

auto alerts 1
auto alert 2
Favorites Alert

So it does depend on how your version is programed. If you have predefined catergories named Auto alert 1/2 then use destinator console to import to these catergories. If not predefined then create them when you import. You may find though that you can get alert setting for other named catergories in favorites.

I am assuming you have ND version on a pna and not a pocket pc.
I have been looking at this software to see if it works any better than the OP version (as OP is only for PNA's also). The only problem is that it only comes bundled with the device you buy it with, I don't think you can buy it as a seperate software.

Can you let me know how you get on with your alert settings. I would like to know if you can get seperate setting for different catergories and what your alert voice says for each catergory. Also if you get alerts for other catergories outside the auto alerts 1 and 2.

If it is anything like OP version you may only be able to get one setting for all catergories with only one and the same voice command.

I would appreciate your help so I can try and reprogram my version to work correctly.

Let me know if you need any more help getting the cams on and setting up your alerts.

Pete

Hi guys,

I've got the latest firmware on my Packard Bell GPS 400 (5.5). I've managed to get the cameras installed using the information on this thread BUT I cant seem to activate them! When I go to Favorites, the image for each of the cameras has a red line through it...on the old firmware, I used to have to click on an eye icon to activate the cameras but I dont know what the equivalent is on the new firmware. I'm hoping someone who has activated the cameras on the new firmware can show me the error in my ways...Thanks

Ah so you have the all new v5.5, my instructions where written for v5.1.

Dead right! - the CD has version 5.1.118
So somebody has flashed new firmware onto my unit with the new version - which I must say is rather nice. It does NOT allow you to set different warning settings for different POI groups however! Doh.
I have sorted out the upload of POIs tho - takes a bit of effort but worth it:
1. WAV files are copied to:
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\Voice\All

2. BMP files are copied to:
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\UserData\Favorites

3. Convert the CSV files using the destinator console

4. and now the tricky bit! because I don't want to overwrite my nice shiny new version of DestinatorND with the less shiny old version, I cannot copy the converted files to the device. If I try it, it complains that the software is not installed etc. etc. So - locate the place on your hard drive where the converted CSV files have been placed - the converted files have the DAT extension and are found at:
[path to destinator]\DestinatorApps\Collection\Console\IndepIndep\Favorites
And copy these DAT files to the same place as the BMP files:
\DestinatorApps\Destinator\UserData\Favorites

Cheers
