tomtom city maps - warning

ok I admit it I was being hopeful.

I downloaded a city map of blackburn from the tomtom site for the princley sum of £3.37. I'd got lost in the new one way section in blackburn last week.-Apparently the designer was savaged to death by his guide dog recently.

My tomtom map was hopelessy out of date.

What you get is a city map -probably more up to date than the one I have which you have to switch to , to use. It disappointlingly doesn't update your tomtom UK map for that particlular region.

I kind of consider it as much use as a chocolate tea pot.

An isolated city map doesn't allow you to navigate into the city from elsewhere.
You can't put any favoutites to navigate to from outside tha map zone becuase it has its own config file, when you switch over maps you lose your favourite until you switch back.

so it seems if you want regularly updated maps from tomtom, you have to buy the whole software bundle over and over again.

City maps are designed for people who have maps for one country but are just visiting a city from another country. They are useful if you are just flying in, or if you have major roads of Europe (that will get you to the city) for example.

They show no more detail than the maps of the country the city is in. As you have found out they are not worth buying if you already have the country map.
