My 2p - I've got a 1GB non Ultra - Put on a few small maps to test, then transfered as as much of the TOPO GB as I could, pretty much all of England about 990MB without a problem.

I probably wont need to change any of the mapping again (unless I go to Scotland!).

Seems like everyone should avoid the Ultra II cards at the moment, normal cards can be had pretty cheap now, £26 for a 1GB at mobymemory if anyone's interested. If there are any better prices then please post them.

AndyArk,

Can I ask whether you transfer directly to the GPS or use a card reader?

I did the transfer in the GPS - At the time I didn't have an SD card reader.

OK, it seems this problem has been addressed by MapSource's latest version:

Changes made from version 6.10.2 to 6.11.1:

    * Added support for large format Garmin data cards, such as 512MB cards.
    * Corrected compatibility issues between certain Garmin data cards and MapSource.

Now who has the courage to test a 900MB upload to a SanDisk Ultra II card?

I'll let other braver souls try that!!

Me, I swapped my second very dead Ultra II card for a standard 1Gb card.

Works fine in a card reader and in a GPS. Result, one happy bunny :D

I did, before I read this forum.

The problem is in the Garmin "x" GPS units, not in MapSource, and not with the SanDisk 1GB UltraII microSD cards.

I had exactly the same experience (twice) with SanDisk UltraII 1GB microSD and GPSmap 76CSx.
1) Card works fine in 3 different PCs.
2) Card inserted in 76CSx gives errors - both in direct and mass storage mode
3) Card is now completely dead - even in PCs.

Message to Garmin:
You have not even bothered to reply to my email after 2 weeks.
You owe me $160 for 2 destroyed microSD cards.
This is my sixth Garmin unit - it will probably be my last!

Bad news everyone!

Finally got a reply from Garmin:

"Ultra II microSD cards. Will not work due to the high-speed protocol, these cards have very steep signal rise curves, and thus are causing the I/O drivers of the 60CSx to fail and somehow send out of control signals or spikes to the card which itself is not able to handle the load."

Whatever it means it seems to say that UltraII cards will not work with the 60CSX Crying or Very sad

Well, I guess you, me, and stenness already knew that, no thanks to Garmin. They still haven't written me back after nearly 2-1/2 weeks. And it's both the "x" units, not just the 60. Also saw a post somewhere about Nuvi.

I did buy a SanDisk non-Ultra 1GB card and it works fine with 968MB of maps on it. But I've now got $160 worth of inert little plastic chips I don't know what to do with. Any suggestions?
It's not SanDisk's fault as both Ultra cards worked fine in 3 different PCs and a cell phone. After all the $ I've spent exclusively at Garmin over 12 years I am mighty PO'd.
