|
|
Sorry if this should be in the TomTom Go forum, but I thought I'd get a better response here - maybe even from my friend, the man himself!
My son has ditched his TomTom speed camera database (even though he'd already paid for it) for the far superior one from this site, proving that Mum really does does know best! .
He would also like to use MaFt's POIs. Is it possible to convert them for his TomTom Go 500, maybe by using POIConverter from here http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com/html/poiconverter.html? _________________ Anita

feel free to try it! only problem i can think of is that the garmin csv's have 4 columns (long, lat, name, details) but i think ov2's only have 3? you may lose some of the address/phone data...

Thanks MaFt and slartibartfast.
I've e-mailed my son with your suggestions. _________________ Anita

I have used POIEdit to convert some for my sister. Sometimes you have to do a bit of cutting and pasting of columns in Excel to get the right information on Tom Tom but it is easy enough with a bit of trial and error.

Thanks, Nick.
How about the otherway round? My son has sent me a .csv file which, as MaFt suggested, only has three columns - longitude, latitude and a text field, which has 3 characters for the type of restaurant, then space dash space, then the name of the restaurant, then space dash space, then the phone number.
1. Is there a limit to the number of characters in the Name column for the Garmin?
2. Would the dashes cause a problem?
3. Can the 4th column be left blank, or must it have some text in it?
Thanks for any help you can give. _________________ Anita

I have already done this for a friend using POIedit batch tools. If it would help I could dig them out from my laptop. |

To answer your questions (I will only answer them once however many times you post )
I don't see why POIedit won't alter them the other way around.
1) I don't know if there is a limit, if there is I expect it will just cut the end off, certainly I have not had any problems.
2) I think dashes are OK, in fact I don't think there are any restrictions on letters used with the possible exception of semi colons.
3) Yes the 4th column can be left blank.
