Hi All
Have just taken delivery of a Garmin I3 from Comet (£129.99).
I read your Forum comments before buying and am confused ( it doesn't take much!).
My unit doesn't hava a plug in microSD card but it does have a socket for one. It seems to work OK and can find satellites, show me where I live in the UK, etc. The box says it has V8 data.
Does the lack of card mean it has permanent memory built in, and if so, how much spare is there to download POIs, etc? I was expecting a 128 or 256MB card to be supplied containing UK and Ireland data.
Do all the POI download 'how-tos' information on your excellent website apply to this unit, or have Garmin 'cost reduced' it and made it unmodifiable?
Is the microSD slot used to add map info of other regions and can it be used for anything else?
Sorry for all these questions, but I plan to add POIs etc and Frenchmap data and need to decide if this unit will do this or whether I should return it for a refund within a week?
Any help would be appreciated. |

Hi im also new to this and i bought te same i3 as yourself last week and im no help to you with your questions except for one... ive just took a look at mine and yes you do get a 256mb tranflflash card in the set top itself, its only tiny and if you look on the right and side of the unit where you would put the AA batteries you should see a at the top where you plug the cable into it and a little further down there is another wot looks like a hole of some sort (sorry explaination not good ) im sure you will see wot i mean, well if you give that a little push the 256mb card will be released.
I hope this helps cos like i said i no nothing about these things but after reading your post i took a look at mine and yes its there. |

Greytop, the newer i3s use internal memory and have no card, but they do have a slot where cards with other mapping can be used. I have the old version with the mapping on a card, so I'm afraid I can't be of any further help. _________________ Anita

Thanks for your help. The I3 is easy to use and suits me well at present, so I'll keep it. Have e-mailed Garmin to find out about memory size available. No answer yet. |
