|
|
Hi,
I have some questions about the Nuvi 350 I'm hoping somebody can help me with.
1. Can you turn "lock to roads" off like on the GPSV and 76s and use it as a handheld?
2. Does it automatically change to "night mode"?
3. Are there any TMC options for the unit?
Thanks for your help. _________________ Thanks,

1) You can select OFF ROAD if thats any good
2) Yes it does
3) If TMC is something to do with Traffic, you can buy an add on I think

Does OFF ROAD plot a straight line to your destination without providing route instructions etc..? _________________ Thanks,

For what I'm using it for - nope.
Unless compasses can find Geocaches now. _________________ Thanks,

If you are buying online for use in the UK, make sure you buy a UK model, which includes a lifetime subscription to the Trafficmaster RDS-TMC service (not included on the US or European versions). |

but having a gps sytem means you don't need to mess about with a map to work out where you are... hence no need for maps and compasses! |

Why would you want a compas when you can use a sextant? _________________ Gone fishing! |

True; this newfangled compass technology will never catch on.
PS - I've never understood why they don't bend the needle a bit to point true north |

Tried seaweed as well but the damn stuff just won't stay striaght
Thanks for all your replies - There's a very good chance I'm going to go for one of these babys instead of another TT
I miss my Garmin units they were much better built and the SW was much more stable. _________________ Thanks,

Well having used TomTom products since v1, I've now switched back to Garmin.
If it helps I've had my Nuvi 350 & GTM-11 for about 3 hours now, and I'm impressed with the TMC traffic, working perfectly in my hotel room. Will report more tomorrow after my drive home.
For info, I purchased it from ASK, Tottenham Court Rd, £500 for both the Nuvi & TMC.
Also the Garmin routing is better than the new & old TomTom units. This is based on my usage of the i3 |

Could you please explain to me how the GTM-11 'fits in' to the car - i.e. does it need a cigarette lighter feed, does it connect to the car arial or have it's own antenna - and is this internal or external? I'm just wondering how clean or messy the configuration is in terms of having wires all over the place.
Another thing I've never been able to establish - does the 350/360 pronounce e.g. A4133 as you would expect, or as "A four thousand one hundred and thirty three" as I believe the TT 910 does?
I'm very interested to hear more after you have used this setup for a while. |

The power has to use the car cradle connector, and the GTM-11 plugs into the side USB socket on the Nuvi.
The GTM-11 uses an external aerial, 2 of which are provided - a 10" solid aerial, and a long t-shaped wire antenna. With a y-splitter cable, it could be feed directly from the car aerial, although if you are considering permanently mounting it and connecting it to the car aerial, the GTM-10 may be better, as it's designed for this.
If you read the GTM-11 manual, available from here it might help you - it certainly shows the unit with the 10" whip aerial fitted.
I'll let SpeedCam answer on the TTS question, but given Garmin have been providing TTS for a while, and update their voices to deal with mapping data anomalies, I would hope this was handled correctly. |

Thanks - for some reason it never occurred to me to look for an online manual. That does make it much clearer though. I had assumed for some reason that the aerial has to be mounted outside the car, but it seems not. |
