Does the heated windscreen on a ford have an affect on the quality of reception for an internal GPS reciever?
If so can anyone suggest a remidy to my failing signal and loss of sats? |

Heated screen have little or no effect.
What does have an effect is athermic (heat reflective) windscreens. I understand that latest Sirfstar3 receivers are OK for these though. Otherwise use an external aerial. _________________ Peter

It's possible that you may be able to get a better signal if you mount the receiver behind the rearview mirror (if possible) as there is usually a gap in the athermic coating.

I don't think he has an athermic (heat reflecting) screen. He has a heated screen, which many Fords now have. _________________ Peter

What about athermic coated glass with integral heater elements? anyone considered this, the heater elements perform a totally different job to the TI coating applied to the windscreen (and it is the later that causes the problem - not the heater elements) - just a though - Mike |

I find that the heated front screen in my Focus does interfere with GPS on the Navman 510. If I move the unit down to the bottom Right hand of the screen (where there are no heating elements.) I get a much better signal.
When I had a 310 I could not even get a signal anywhere else. |
