I have various Europe maps that I can select. However next visit I will be in the USA for 2 weeks and a friend sent me a copy of the Illinois map.
However although I copied it to the SD card with all the other maps the Switch map option does not see it. Is there away around this ? _________________ Mike from UK but in NL

They are probably v4 USA maps which will only work with Tomtom 5.0.
Assuming you are running TT5.1 or 5.21 then remove tomtom, and install the original 5.0 (if you have it). You may then be able to see the USA map.
It worked for me in Florida last year. Did a two week 'downgrade'!! |

You buy the map (US Midwest region) for 59.95 euros from TomTom!
"Borrowing" maps is a breach of copyright. Much as I dislike TomTom for their business practices, shoddy software etc this doesnt justify copyright theft.
Just because they are **** doesnt mean their users should sink to their level. |

Yes I agree, but I was still trying to answer the question. |

I did look at the buy option and if I lived here the cost would be ok but for 2 weeks use it is very high... Also I have had lots of problems with the install (my Dell PDA is not on the official list for some reason) so am reluctant to re-install software as it took many goes last time before it worked. ...I instead found a city map for Euro 5 so ordered that for download....
Tomtom confirmed the money and order in 15 minutes but no map arrived so after 4 hours I rang the local NL helpdesk. They said there was a large order in and a slight backlog but it should arrive with 12 hours... so 36 hours later and now in the USA (and navigating via old paper maps) I reach the hotel and ring TT USA support. After 10 minutes of taking details they decide I should not be passed to 2nd level support but they will email me the map but could not confirm it would happen today (and the weekend is tomorrow so it wont happen then either)
It will be interesting when I get back and if map still not arrived whether they will refund or not...
Anyway just thought u might like to know.... /Mike _________________ Mike from UK but in NL
