|
|
As part of an ongoing dispute over the maps supplied with my copy of TTN 5 :x I have received this response:-
Quote: | The software on both CD's and SD cards that is available in the market to buy at this moment in time is 562 and 571. Any software versions that are 6++ and upward are DOWNLOADABLE ONLY. The purchase of this downloadable version is available from TomTom only and cannot be purchased anywhere else either on CD or SD card. |
While this may be true for the GB Plus map V632 I know of no way of obtaining the GB map v605 (not the Plus version) by download from TomTom.
Since several posters in this forum have copies of GB map v605 could any readers who have this map (legally!!) or v632 other than download please let me know the source of the map to indicate whether the supplier and TomTom are telling the truth?
Since I am aiming to use this as evidence to respond to the supplier the more responses the better provided they are accurate.
Thanks

Map version 632 is available as a PLUS map and this is considered an add on rather than a base install map. I had to rebuild my Ipaq the other day after a motherboard replacement and found the following.
You cannot activate the 632 map without first activating a base map (either the normal or the plus version) from Maps of Western Europe or other source. It was only after I phoned TomTom support that they reminded me of this. (I had previously turned the air blue trying to go straight to the map I wanted to use rather than install, activate, overwrite, activate.)
Whilst I understand that you want the latest maps when you buy the software, this is only ever likely to occur if the software house only supplies via web download as otherwise the channel will inevitably have out of date maps on removable media in it. As the Maps of Western Europe set is on multiple CDs this is not really feasible for TomTOm despite the wide availability of broadband.
I think you might be swimming against the tide here but all the best. _________________ TTN 6 Ipaq HW6910 Liz Whittaker's voice

I've had the v605 map running with 5.21.
I had a problem with a tomtom one we got at christmas and at the time thought the sd card was faulty - managed to copy this onto another card - so stuck it in my pda and it worked no problem.
Had a brief look at the the local roads changes - found that non of the problems I knew about had been adjusted...
Since then been using the 605 map in the ONE and I have the normal UK plus map for navigator - find the plus map far more useful than the basic uk one.
so the 605 map comes with the ONE unit - if also didn't need activating when I put in my pda! _________________ -----------------------------------------------------------

IMO chasing a map update is rather futile. If it was possible to obtain anything remotely resembling current, accurate mapping from Tom Tom then it may be worthwhile putting in the effort. In reality, even if you're successful, you may well only end up with a map that's 30 months out of date rather than 36 months.
It's a bit like complaining that your new PC shipped with Windows 95 rather than Windows 98. |

But map versions 605 and 632 do contain updates to roads where I live which are not in 569 and 572.
Why should the retailer (and TomTom) get away with advertising "the latest maps available" (from their advertising) but then supply maps which are not the most current and when pushed admit that later versions (632) are only available for chargeable download from TomTom.
I am attempting to get the least out of date versions |

Unfortunately though Tom Tom are legendary for their "**** you" approach to customer service as many of us are all too aware. Just look at the bug list for V5 that remains unaddressed nearly a year after release. As for liaising with their Tech Support, you have more chance of holding an intelligent conversation with Jane (or whichever voice you've chosen).
If you're seriously unhappy with the maps then reject the One back to the retailer as "unfit for purpose" acording to the Sale of Goods Act & wait for the new Go 510 or whatever it's called or try another manufacturer.
It stinks I agree but it's just the way it is.... |

That is precisely what I am trying to do but the retailer is being extremely dificult over it and claiming that versions 605 and 632 are only available by download from TomTom at an extra cost and you need to already have TTN 5 and at least one map. This is true for the 632 Plus map downloaded as part of the Plus services.
The retailer doesnt appear to understand that their statement of "all the latest TeleAtlas maps" doesnt quite align with the fact that 605 and 632 exist (which they have finally admitted) and that because these are available only from TomTom this doesnt make them more later than their latest maps!
I have got Trading Standards on their case - it is now a matter of principle.
I realise it will all be academic when the version 6 software eventually appears with presumably new maps but I for one are not holding my breath! |
