Can you explain why I can connect my Garmin Geko to my Dell Axim X30 via a GAX3P but not via a PX3GSP?
I have a GPSBitz Geko to serial cable which also powers the Geko - this cable isn't faulty since it connects to my PC correctly and works for upload and download. When I use this cable plus a serial to male jack adapter to connect to the Axim via the GAX3P I get a fix. But when used with the PX3GSP I get nothing (except that the power to the Axim works OK via the PX3GSP - it's just the data connection that doesn't).
I can see within the Axim body one pin within the connector got bent and fell off - is that a problem? I can't see why one connection route still works and the other doesnt......
Any ideas? |

What did you connect GAX3P with?
What software did you use?
If you see obvious bent pins then there is a big possibility the bent pin is not connected which might be needed for it to work. _________________ Pc-Mobile

I used a home-made serial-to-2.5mm jack lead to connect the serial cable from the Geko to the GAX3P cable.
The pin that is missing within the Axim is at the end of the connector and its function appears to be GRND - duplicated by other pins. Is this pin specifically required by the PX3GSP but not by the GAX3P?
I bought a replacement PX3GSP last week thinking that there fault must be in this bit of the linkage, but the new cable has made no difference. |

You mean both GAX3P abd PX3GSP are missing the pins?
I remember now that is normal! It means that pin is not needed.
But you said one got bent and fell off which is different from missing!
How did you connect them exactly and what software did you use and in what way did it now work, or work? _________________ Pc-Mobile

Sorry - perhaps I wasn't clear - the pin that is missing is within the Axim itself.
I was using TomTom, Fugawi and G7toCE - none of them detected the GPS when using the PCMobile serial lead but all of them did when I used the PCMobile 2.5mm jack lead.
In short, does the PCMobile serial lead need the end pin within the Axim?
But I can't see why one lead needs it and the other apparently doesn't. |

If GAX3P works, PX3GSP should also work int he same way with the same software, provided the other end of the cable is properly connected.
One again, how (with what) exactly did you connect when it worked, and how, when it did not work? _________________ Pc-Mobile

What does work:
Geko - Geko to serial lead from GPSBitz - homemade serial to 2.5mm jack lead - GAX3P - Axim
What doesn't work:
Geko - Geko to serial lead from GPSBitz - PX3GSP - Axim |

You can return PX3GSP to us to test and it will be replaced if found defective and within warranty. _________________ Pc-Mobile
