Hi Gee Pee
If I was you I would wait until this forum has fully tested and given us a full report. I am also interested in this unit, but will wait until all of my niggling thoughts are answered.
Regards

I will, I will I've heard no reports so far and am looking forward to a full review from the review team. But it does sound like it's incorporating many of the 'wish list' upgrades that so many of us wanted. _________________ Gee-Pee

Tim, I have read your launch review and the device looks a great improvement on the 510/520, but it would be interesting to hear how it behaves 'on the road', when you get chance to give it a test. Has the price been confirmed? Does it actually have street level mapping for europe? No hurry..... _________________ Gee-Pee

I'm working nights at the moment and am putting it through its paces between Gatwick and Wimbledon.
Argos have it listed at £299 on their website and it does have European coverage at street level.
I'm also hoping to get the TMC module for it but am still without one at the moment.
More later. _________________ Tim |

I would be interested to know the dimensions when in use i.e. with the flip ariel at 180 degrees to closed.
I am thinking about the availabilty of an Otterbox to make it weatherproof. |

Hi Tim
My question is about the internal Nand flash memory. On the Navman site it states 256/512. which one will a UK purchased unit have.

256Mb. I currently have England an Wales on the NAND Flash and a few bits of France on a 128Mb MMC. The Custom POIs are stored on the NAND so it is best not to fill it up too much, I reckon. I have the 23 file Speed-zoned data on it and every category appears to be active. _________________ Tim |

Plenty of information on the iCN530 here, by the way. _________________ Tim |

Just bought one to replace a nicked 510.
First impressions are mixed. Had a quick panic when I discovered no flip aerial, but reception pickup is excellent. 10 -20 secs in Saab with athermic screen. Also full postcode is great. Unit is much prettier & voice is less tinny.
However tried to go to the NEC using postcode & it could not calculate a route. Tried NEC from POI, still couldn't. Also 100 yards from home it suggests turn left rather than right. 510 was fine.
And it thinks the A61 is a motorway. Newer maps still do not have new maps around Mansfield. And no mains lead.
A 520 at £150 is probably a better buy. |

Tim, would you say the ICN530 is better than the ICN 550? Also do the maps cover Eastern Europe like Poland/Czech Republic? Does the 550 TM work on the 530 or do you need a 530 specific TM? _________________ TTG 720

I forgot to ask if you think it's better than the TomTom 710? _________________ TTG 720

Mojo,
It's better in that it is much more portable and the maps are newer (but still not as new as the latest TomTom offerings). Map coverage is the same as the 550, so nothing in Eastern Europe yet. The Traffic modules are different and are not interchangeable I am waiting to see if I can get hold of a Traffic Module for the 530.
I can't comment on a comparison to the TomTom GO710 as I've not even seen one of the latter, let alone held or operated one. If pushed, I'd liken the iCN530 more to a TomTom ONE, though. _________________ Tim |
