|
|
As posted on the wrong board earlier......
I want to download the Western European maps for a Tom Tom One but am concerned that a 2GB SD card won't be big enough. The Tom Tom site lists the size of the maps at 1.9GB but don't memory cards need to keep some space back for themselves just to operate? Also, if this is not a concern, is 100MB enough to store any POI's and other data I may want/need.
Sorry if these are obvious questions but I'm somewhat of a novice where all this is concerned and a quick search didn't reveal any answers.
Thanks in advance. |

The unzipped Safety Camera Database is 343KB.
The 1.9GB may just about fit on a 2GB Card but if you have one Country as a PLUS map and/or the downloadable Alps Region map, they will not. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

The Western & Central Europe Maps from the TomTom are
1.55 GB (1,673,473,164 bytes)
So will fit on a 2GB card with plenty of room left over for Applications and extras,
These are the latest maps from TomTom so should be the ones downloadable
This is the one piece map with cross border navigation.
Hope That Helps

From the Tom Tom website
http://www.tomtom.com/plus/services/mds.php
"This product allows you to download the seven individual maps of Great Britain, DE AT CH PL CZ, France, Italy, Iberia, Benelux and Scandinavia. All of these maps are detailed regional maps connected to the Western European major road network.
filesize on device: 1.9 GB"
Is the 1.55GB map to which you refer different to the one described above? Based on what you say I'll have no problems but I'm confused as to why it would be listed as 1.9GB on the website, unless they are two different maps?
Sorry if I'm being thick, just want to be sure before I splash the cash!
Thanks. |

| I thought the maps you mentioned were only available pre-installed on an SD Card. Can you point to where you found the maps? I could be interested. Thanks. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

greenock, yes you're right but I have seen a 2GB card with pre-installed maps of Western Europe, seamless border crossings, for I believe 249 Euros, from TomTom. Typically, when I want to find it, I can't.
There's a big difference in price to the 120 Euros for the downloadable version. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Yeah I've seen that too but if you can download the maps for half the price and then load them onto your own SD card which you've paid £40 for, that appears to make far more sense, unless I'm missing something. It seems like you'd be paying a premium for having it supplied ready to go, I for one wouldn't be adverse to doing a bit of work, downloading and transfering to the card, in order to save myself some cash. Unless, like I say, I'm missing something? |

You are missing something. The 249 Euro maps are a single seamless map. This means that you don't need to switch maps to navigate across national (or regional) boundaries. It is actually a 1.5Gb card, I think.
The maps on the CD come in seven parts but you need to switch maps to get street mapping on each . _________________ Tim |

The downloadable maps is a set of all Plus maps for Europe. Not the complete map of Western Europe (as on GO700 harddisk and 1.5GB SD).
For each map you also have the major roafds network of Europe integrated, so that's why the download is bigger than the Western Europe map on SD _________________ GO1005

OK. Many thanks for the help so far but one last question. If the 1.9GB download is not one big map but all the seperate countries/groups of countries does that mean I'd not be able to navigate seamlessly across the continent? Or would my Tom Tom One link them all and work it out for me?
Hope this doesn't make me wish I'd bought a 700/710......
Again, thanks. |

That's correct

No it doesn't link them. You have to Switch Maps, or use the Major Roads part until you're in the Destination Country. _________________ Richard

I can no longer find the download option on the tomtom.com website. Anyone know if it has gone/moved or is it just me? |
