I would like to give Jane a rest from telling me how to get from A-to-B. using TTN3
I have downloaded the Celebs' voice I want to use, but I don't know how to install it.
All advice i have seen is mostly for TTN5.
Fair do's, tight fisted you may say, but does this mean i have to take the plunge and uprade to TTN5, or can it be done with TTN3
I am thinking of upgrading, but was going to wait for TTN6 to be released officially (if they are going to release it)
(good old slow)ipaq 6340 (ppc2003) + Bluetooth GPS Reciever - 2GB SD storage card (also installed location for TTN3 - Latest TTN3 updates from website (303 i think) |

You would need to upgrade to vs5 to make use of the celeb voices - the TTN3 uses a different voice file format, I supose you could try taking appart the TTN5 voice then creating specific wav files to replace each TT3 navigation command, not realistic though as this would be a huge undertaking - Mike |

If you navigate to My Device/Program files/navigator..all the voice files are there .. I seem to remember this being discussed in the distant past that you can play about with them and replace them to your own recorded vioces..

Dave you are correct, the only downside is there are over sixty individual voice files to "play" with, quite a task but it could be done, the alerts appear similar if not the same to the TTN5 ones so it might be possible to take appart the celeb voice of choice and convert/ disect the resultant wav files to produce the set needed - quite a task though in terms of time, but it could be done - Mike |

HI,
Thanks for your replies.
I have upgraded to TTN5, and oh boy, what an excellent upgrade.
Lots better than TTN3.
Thanks again, I even got John Clease and Anri Swazenegger to tell me where to go!
Cheers, and keep up the good work guys !!

Having just downloaded the Joanna Lumley voice I would like to install it. I looked at the forum because I did not know where to put the voice files and I came across this thread.
I have looked at My pocket PC\programfiles\navigator as you suggested, however, I do not appear to have the voice files installed in that directory.
The only files in that directory are data.chk and two files one a .bmp and one application for Navigator. I cannot for the life of me find the voices folder to drop all the new voice files into. I am using jane at the moment.
I hope you can help.
Thanks

Having done some more searching I think that the voices you can download from the Tom Tom website are just two files and I see that they are put in the program\navigator files. mine however comprises of 50+.ogg files.
I have tried putting them into a folder in program\navigator and also without a folder by just dropping them in. I'm sure I am doing something very silly to explain why it doesnt work.

Howard, create a couple of new folders in the root (top level) of the memory card, call the first one voices and put your new voice files into this folder, the second folder you need to create in the root of the memory card is one called tomtom, nothing goes into this but without it the voices will not work - Mike |

Hi Mike
Thanks for your reply. I had already actually done that, I have a folder called TomTom which is empty anyway which I had to create to get the postcodes working.
I then created a folder called voices and dropped all the .ogg files into it. Its still not working I'm afraid , when I select change voice from the preference menu is says there is only one voice available.

Mike
Problem solved. After doing some more digging I finally found the 3 files the .bmp .vif and .chk put them on the card as suggested and it works.
I thought that all the sound .ogg files would work as well, but it obviously does not.
Anyway, many thanks for your help

Howard you cannot "drop" ogg files into the voices folder, they are in the wrong format, the ogg files need to be built into a single file with another application, sorry I didn't spot this in your earlier post.
I know you use POIExtend to create warning voice files but I am not too sure what software can be used for compiling the Navigation voice (never tried this myself). - Mike |
