have bought a secondhand ipaq 3970 with the navman sleeve, i have installed ttn2 all seems ok but when i go to the gps screen it can see some sats but they are only in grey and it cant get a fix on them....on the gps menu it is on com6 and tomtom (ipaq sleeve)....this is the only setting where it will search for sats....sorry im new to all this

ok an update.... i have just started the gps and left it out in the garden....after about five mins it see's the sats ...but why is it soooo slow to find them

depending on where you bought the sleeve from, you may experience a very long time to first fix (upto 15 minutes), once a fix is established it should fix much quicker (between 1 to 2 minutes)

left it outside again took ages to get a fix again turned it off and on again same thing.......i get the grey bars looking for sats but it cannot get a fix for ages |

have you tried installing the latest navman drivers?
also, you may live in a patchy area, how many sats does it see when connected? |

I just tried the anti static bag trick and I must conclude it works!
I've never recieved more than 5 yellow sats and very rarely more than 3 greens using my Navman 3000 / ipaq 3970 combi.
Today I folded up a bag (to four layers) etc etc and activated my ipaq.
From cold it locked with I'd say 10 to 20 seconds and as I walked around the garden it was getting 6 green plus 3 yellows!
9 signals! Something I've never seen before using a navman! |

Actually I'm not sure that I did I did say that it was heavily discussed in the forums and pointed him to this thread  |
