I run 2.24/2.06 using PC2002 is it worth upgrading to 2.08?
Thanks

Hi Shiftcontrol,
Are you happy with your set-up, as it currently is? If you are then why change it? The old adage “if it ain’t broken, then don’t fix it” applies very well to the PPC environment!
I’m also running TTNav 2.24 and GPS 2.06 and I find that it’s OK.
I’ve thought about upgrading to GPS 2.08 but reading the forums shows that there seems to be a few problems with 2.08.

Hi his_racing_puma,
If you have GPS 2.08 then you will probably have TTNav 2.24. To confirm this: Go into the Map Mode, File menu at the bottom left hand side, About. You will be given the version number.

Privateer, do you have any idea what TomTom do about updates to the maps. I noticed earlier that a main road near me isnt on the map. It was only built 5 (yes FIVE) years ago.
Cheers

Hi his_racing_puma,
Tele Atlas is constantly updating their map data. I’m desperately waiting for them to provide detailed data for the Channel Islands and Jersey in particular. I know that they will be doing the Isle of Man and more parts of Ireland in the next few months.
However, that’s only part of the story. Once Tele Atlas has created the updated maps, TomTom then have to buy the map data from Tele Atlas. The next stage involves TomTom having to process the data to compress it to a useable size for PDA navigation. Now this almost certainly costs TomTom a lot in royalties to Tele Atlas data, so for TomTom to recoup the costs, they normally only release new maps when there’s a major new version of TTNav. The last version was TTNav 2.0, which was released in April 2003.
The accepted rule of thumb for the life expectancy of PDA navigation software, i.e. before a major new version is released, is 9 to 12 months. So to answer your question we’re looking at a possible TTNav3 to be released between January 2004 and April 2004. This is pure speculation on my part.
Dave and the rest of the crew behind PocketGPS may know more, but they work under a Non Disclosure Agreement so they can’t tell us even if they did know.
You can always report a problem to Tele Atlas directly, via the following URL:
