|
|
Here is a picture of the new TomTom Go 510/710/910 windscreen holder:
My concern is that I don't want to fix my 910(pre-ordered) to the windscreen because of all the hassle of removing all the evidence when I leave my car. So my question, is there an alternative holder that I can buy or maybe even adapt the original which would fit to a "move it brodit clip" which will be fitted lower down in my car , away from prying eyes. Any suggestions? _________________ TomTom Go 910 (3) v.6.522 Map Western Europe v.650 with useless TMC receiver

the holder is not just a security risk, it is also an ergonomic catastrophe.
I would have proposed a Garmin bean bag, but the GO910 has the speaker on the bottom (!!!) and this will muffle the sound.
I am really curious what Brodit or HR will come up with.
The really bad part is that you NEED the mount to provide power to the GO. _________________ Lutz

I was just looking at the desktop base for the GO 910. That one does also have a power input, and a rubberized base. I'll test how it behaves in the car, on the dashbord. It may be the better alternative. _________________ Lutz

That mount looks a little short...
my windscreen is at a very steep angle - I can't see how this is going to fit.... _________________ Thanks,

The lack of connectivity is worrying for something that costs £500, surely TT aren't trying to skimp on a couple of pounds worth of sockets? If it can't be vent mounted I won't be buying! |

You will get a remote control. Only that will make the device usable. _________________ Lutz

The device weighs about the same as the other GOs. Way too heavy for a vent mount. _________________ Lutz

I would agree it's a little heavy but I had no problems vent mounting the GO 700 using the TT alternative mount kit.
Once I knocked the whole thing accidentally with my hand and the air vent basically fell to pieces 8O ; fortunately I managed to clip it back together.
Vent mounting o the right had side is very convenient for me as it makes the screen easy to read and control. Also it keeps the unit pretty much out of sight of theiving scum when on the road (Being paranoid I don't want these people following me, waiting for me to park.) |

I see that in California it is illegal to fix your sat nav to the windscreen, so I was wondering how they will get round the problem with the 510/910 issue. _________________ TomTom Go 910 (3) v.6.522 Map Western Europe v.650 with useless TMC receiver

As I said, the desktop base may work - you can place it onto the dash, and quickly remove it when leaving the car. _________________ Lutz

A beanbag like the Garmin would be much better - I miss that from my old Streetpilot III ...... _________________ Thanks,

Hi Lutz,
Couple of questions:
1) Do you know when PocketGPS will be posting a review for the
TomTom 910
2) In your opinion (if u have the device to hand) is it worth buying,.
regards

1) No. Too much other stuff going on, everybody is really busy.
2) It's a good device with lots of potential. I would buy it if I had the money. I heard this will sell for 799 USD - way above my budget line.
I tried the beanbag, and it does muffle the sound badly. I wish the speaker would be on the front (why not use the display as a speaker?)
I also tried the desktop base and while it is kinda ok (no excessive sliding around) there is a problem with the angle the device sits in the base. It's about 45 degrees, so the device looks upwards rather than straight horizontally (like the old GOs). And the ignition control doesn't work on the desktop base (which is weird). _________________ Lutz
