Hi,
I am fairly new to sat nav. I have a Tom Tom ONE and would like to sell it and move to Mobile Phone GPS. The phone I was wanting and nearly ordered is the Nokia N70. I had a quick look on this forum that helped me so much when deciding on my TTONE and found loads of people having problems.
Is the problem between the N70 and TT5 sorted now or should I keep well away until it is.
I was planning on buying a GPS reciever from Ebay and the TOM TOM Mobile software seperatly.
Hope the forum can come through for me again and give me a clear answer many thanks. |

The problem with the N70 seems to be caused by the PocketGPSWorld speed camera database. If the single camera POI is used then there is no problem. I have used my N70 for a 7 hour trip through France & UK without any problem at all.
Unfortunately you cannot buy the TomTom mobile software on it's own; it comes with the TomTom GPS receiver and although it is a pretty decent unit, I already had a Nokia GPS receiver which uses the same power supply as the phone. Against my better judgement I bought the whole TomTom package and sold the reciever on eBay. It still annoys me that I am forced to buy a GPS reciever and memory card that I don't need.
Overall I would highly recommend the N70, especially if, like me, you don't do a great deal of travelling. Compared to the TomTom ONE though you may find the screen small and difficult to read. |

Scottcooper,
What firmware do you have on your N70?
I'm on T-mobile press *#0000# and the firmware version will be shown.
On mine its:-
V2.0537.1.7
18-09-05
RM-84
I removed all the PocketGPSWorld speedcamera data base files and it still locked up after about 20mins.
I'm using a HOLOX BT321 GPS receiver ( BTGPS74R is the connection display) which is much faster than the original TT one and it gets a lock when I'm inside!! amazing.
I have contacted TT about selling the software only and they say they are looking into it, may be available in the summer, too late for us but others may be lucky and save some cash.
Does anybody know the minimum firmware version required to run TTM5 on the N70 to prevent the lock ups?

V3 is better than V2, but still has a few problems. Some people are reporting that V5 has cured the problems with Satnav programs. The problems appear to be down to problems with Bluetooth on the N70. Mine is at V3 and I can get it to work without errors, but have to be very careful about the order I start and stop things. I intend to get the firmware upgraded (again) soon. _________________ Kam |

a local nokia service centre will do it
and they should do it for free
i found out where mine was from my 02 shop, but the nokia service centre will need proof of ownership for example receipts |
