I have read with interest the comments on this thread.
I have tried both 2.82 and 2.9 updates, and found them to be slower at updating than 2.7, so have reverted back to 2.7. I am not sure why the map should not update as quickly, but it is noticible more on the track up 2d view where a blank section appears whilst the map is scrolling down. I found this made navigating very hard as trying to see what was coming up to tie in with the voice prompts.
For now I am going to remain with 2.7, but will try the next version to see if it improves. _________________ Acefreecell

Sorry, newbie on this. I havent tried the new version. I have downloaded the previous version in case of problems, how can I reload this back?
Sorry cant help on this on, as I've only gone upwards using WebUpdater software, I cant imagine thats its too much more than unzipping the f/w, then clicking on the 'Updater' icon with the yellow arrow down, click the radio button for USB, let it find your device and away you go, why are you wishing to update at present, Garmin have acknowledged a problem with v2.90 which seems to cause general slow running of the i3, I would hold off for a bit, or at least upgrade to 2.70 if you are using a lesser version than that.

Also, how can I update the map for changes. Does the Garmin update do this?
The latest mapping is version 8, it cant be downloaded, but if you have v7, then you can post off your transflash card to Garmin for a free update, see seperate thread on this subject.

Can you copy the Garmin card to a blank one? Are blanks available.?
Blanks are avail, you can copy the contents onto a 'spare' card but sadly it wont then work in your i3, most blank cards come with an SD converter, so I have copied the supplied transflash contents onto my PC, with the intention of resending that back onto my original card incase I corrupt something.

That's EXACTLY what you do if you wish to downgrade. Spot on.
Just updated to 2.90 and noticed the occasional white screen but also something else. At the start of any journey from home I have the choice of turning left then right onto a main road or right then left onto a main road. I normally turn right then left because it is easier to join the main road but the i3 always tells me to turn left. This was never a problem with 2.70 since my route would be recalculated before I reached the left turn but with 2.90 the i3 refuses to even recognise that I have deviated from it’s chosen route. The map position on the screen is correct and it obviously is not following the red line and I do not get any route guidance until I rejoin the red route line a little further into the journey. When this first happened I thought it might just be an isolated incident but now it has occurred on both journeys since I updated. I think I will definitely roll back to 2.70.
That is excatly what I have experianced. I think you have explained it better than I could have. Lets hope this quirk will be corrected soon.
Same thing again this morning. Pressing detour seemed to cure it but that is hardly ideal. In my experience the problem only seems to happen at the beginning of a journey unless anyone knows differently.
I can't believe it. I've gone back to 2.70 and now exactly the the same thing has happened again. It definitely never happened before installing 2.90. Surely elements of 2.90 cannot be present in the unit since when you downgrade it effectively performs a hard reset.
Back-up your favourites before re-installing 2.7 using EasyGPS, available from http://www.easygps.com. Although they're OK when you upgrade the software, you lose them when you downgrade. _________________ Anita

Install easy GPS, click the recieve icon, in the subsequent box that opens, check the 'waypoints' only, your i3 should be in the 'GPS settings' dropdown box, retreive, then file-save as, give it a filename to suit yourself and that should be it, vice versa, open up your filename that you gave earlier and 'send' back to your i3 once you have the your desired downgraded f/w, in much the same manor

I'm glad slartibartfarst mentioned this because I am having the same problem as him. I didn't want to mention it because it sounds too weird. Having run the beta for ages with no problems I upgraded to V9 . The unit went a little mad so I went back to the beta.
It's definatly a bit better but the unit is still freazing now and again and on the odd occasion it has drawn some strange stuff.
And yesterday for the first time ever the unit just stopped working and I had to unplug it to get it back going again.
Can anything be left in the unit of V9 while running beta. The reason I ask is that the Cymru country option is still in the unit when I'm sure it wasn't in the beta release.
i have also noted that there are, including cymru, other countries still in the listings after i went back to beta 2.82 from 2.9.
no probs with the beta though

Can I be the only i3 user on v2.90 f/ware NOT suffering from any probs? 2 weeks now, 650 miles and nothing other than the very occasional slowish screen refresh at zoomed-out resolution.
Certainly zero white-screen-of-death / too late voice prompts / anything else negative of note...
It's even fixed the screen lockups that I'd previously reported when passing Soton Airport... :D
Could one possibility be that v2.90 is somehow more sensitive to signal strength? I run with an external aerial always connected - and v.rarely see less than 5 green segments on the initial 'Where To' screen???
No Aitch2, i have a ext ariel and suffered screen lag, long waits while it computed route and white screen of death and been told to exit 6 on a roundabout with 4 exit after driving around twice waiting for the thing to say which one. _________________ tom tom start 25
