|
|
Hi,
Having just upgraded my TT5 to v5.21 (build 5431), I now realise that the spoken voices no longer work - if only I'd read the big, bold RED warning on the download page!!!
However, having not done so, I would like to know if there is anyway to either:
a) Get the voices to work with build 5431 (unlikely, I know)....or
b) obtain a copy of the upgrade to v5.21 build 5430.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful as I'm relegated to having various beeps and boings as I approach speed cameras now instead of the beautifully spoken warnings! The TomTom website is no help, as it will only let you download build 5431 now.
Thanks in advance |

Looks like your virus checker is set a tad too high, it is rejecting files
"Report: MailScanner: Cabinet files may hide viruses" - otherwise you would have received the required CAB files - Mike |

Yes, I visited that page but I failed to heed the warning:
"WARNING The extended data.chk files DOES NOT work with TTN5.21 (build 5431). if you have this build DO NOT install the data.chk file. "
... and installed the data.chk file. My mistake, I know that now!
I was trying to find the v5.21 build 5430 upgrade so I could use the data.chk file. (filename 5430_new.data.chk)
When you visit the TomTom website, the only upgrade available for download now is the build 5431 one, not the build 5430. |

The problem is with the build 5431, even if you cook your own data.chk file it will not work with 5431 - I have tried a number of times, the only way to get custom warnings is to use build 5430 and re-install using an archived exe or relevent CAB files. Rays site also carries a similar warning.
Not too sure why it won't work, but if you load a 5430 data.chk it will bomb to the desk top, the same occurs if you cook your own data.chk file tomtom will run up then after a few seconds returns to the desk top (today screen to be more accurate) - Mike |

I didn't know that. I'll compile a 5431 version. I am pretty sure I know where TomTom messed up. Not the first time... _________________ Lutz

Would be fantastic if you could get this to work! Those bells and whistles are driving me crazy!
Incidentally, does anyone know what the actual differences are between build 5430 and 5431? |

I'm not sure exactly what the build numbers 'are' but I know there seem to be two 'versions' of version 5.21... build 5430 and 5431.
Don't know what the differences are, hence my earlier post, but you can find out what build you have by clicking on 'change preferences', then scroll through to 'show version' - the App version will show the version number - 5.210 in my case - and the build number in brackets after it. (5431 in my case). |

V5.xxx is the Software Version and the 4 digit number is the compilation of all the associated Files that goes to make the complete Set.
This comes into it's own when you compare Software between Platforms that have the same Version Number, but have differing Files due to the various OS's. It also implies that there is a variation, as the Software goes though the Versions for a given Platform, that Files can't just be copied between Versions. _________________ Richard

Mike,
Thanks for all your help - using the files you sent me, I have version 5.21, build 5430 installed now - and the custom warning voices work fine!
I guess the next time TomTom release an upgrade, we'll all be back in the same position though?
Thanks again - I'm very grateful!

ok, the 5431 file is now up on the site. It is indeed quite different from the 5430 file. Amazing! _________________ Lutz

Great job Lutz cheers, any chance of sharing the "knowledge" with Ray as a large percentage of PocketGPSWorld use voices from his site - Mike |
