Hi
I'm very new both to Sat Nav and Forums.
Please could somebody help me out - I'm really struggling to find the answers I need.
I have uploaded over 43000 POI's to my i3 unit - will these all automatically show now when I use it - or do I have to tell it what I want it to look for when I set off?
I can't seem to find the answer to this in any manual anywhere.
Please help.
Regards

Normal POIs won't automatically show on the map whilst you're driving, navigating.
You can use them as "where to" points, and you can see them when doing a "find nearby" and "view map", but they don't automatically show when you're navigating. |

So If I'm just driving along with the map showing, they will show?
I think I understand now :-)

No they won't show as you drive along.

Nick
Thanks, but now I'm even more confused, as now I have no idea of their value at all.
I'm sorry to be so dim about this, but now it seems there was no point me obtaining any POI at all, unless I want to navigate to any of them!
For example if they won't show as I drive, what was the point in me obtaining speed camera POI's? Unless I select them as "nearby" items, will it show me then?

Julie, whenever POIs are uploaded you (or Garmin) can decide whether or not they have proximity alerts. Speedcam POIs by default come with proximity alerts in which case you will be warned (bong noise and icon showing) on aproaching them. Furthermore you can modify the speed or distances at which you get alerted (see other threads for this). Other POIs (like MaFt's) would not normally have proximity alerts as you wouldn't want constant bongs (alerts) from your GPS and the small screen cluttered by icons whenever you approach a Tesco or a McDonald and the point behind these POIs (with no proximity alerts) is that you will be able to navigate to them and not for them to show automatically. Having said that you'll always be able to add proximity alerts to the ones that don't have one when using your POI loader on the manual mode. Hope this answers your question. |

It sort of does ty
But I still don't know how to make it so the speed cameras show :-(
I think maybe I'd best just give up and use it for navigating to places that I've not been to before and need help finding.

The cameras will only show if you are over the speed limit as your approach the cameras. |

So it's automatically going to look for the cameras?
This is what I'm confused about - how will it know to look for them - do I not have to do something to the unit?

You have to pay for and then download the Speed Camera POI and load them onto the i3. Then the i3 will know where the cameras are (it can't DETECT cameras) and alert you when you approach them.
matb - I'm not being funny but wouldn't be better to keep the discussion on the forum so others may benefit from your words? |

yes i agree but the issues that julie has have been covered many times before.
you know as well as i do that there are a small amount of people who get a little upset over repeat questions.
so in this case i thought better by pm and keep things simple rather than fobbing her off with forum links.
i know you weren't being funny just thought this was best. |

I have paid for and downloaded the speed camera things - so when I use my unit it will just know where they are and alert me without me doing anything at all then?
Does it matter whether I am navigating, or just viewing the map?
I keep getting lots of answers off you all - but none seem to be telling me exactly what I need to know - sorry to keep asking.
Many thanks for all the help so far
