sorry to keep banging on, but it seems you charge for membership to the forum and with that you get access to the database, so your not charging for it in reality, the charge is for membership the the forum, hence your not selling it, so all you have is a said copyright which i think wouldnt stand up in court as its not all your info.
so if another site posts it they,d be posting it for free so if you where to take them to court that weak so called copyright is your only defence or attack should i say, i wouldnt like your chances and it,d cost if you lost, by no means is your so called copyright water tight, like i said you,ve only your word its yours. like i said public database and now you say its yours based on the fact it was uploaded to your site, does that mean if i upload a pic of me you own the copyright to that?
many member side with you and keep quiet because they get it free, not all submitters get it free as im sure you know yourself, you know how many submitters theres been in the entire build would you care to show the figures of submitters to free access members. any way rambling back to the point if the submitters hadnt got free access they,d have been saying the same thing, and you all lying if you say not. you,ve sweetend the submitters who info it really is, and you rake the cash.
once again it a view not an attack, i myself have sumitted some cams and i would take the membership for free, thats not the point of the post, its just a view from another person who isnt in the in crowd, hate me if you wish, i,ll live.. but admit theres sense in the madness.
boom me again, just topoint out before anyone replys, im not saying dont charge for it, what i am saying is its going to be hard to impliment and stop people sharing and it being made available on other forums etc...your idle threat that you trace each download wont stop it, maybe the ebay sellers as you can fing them easy, but not the ones who post on forums who give it away. id say 50% who get it share it with someone even if its the wife, brother etc... and you threaten to ban them as you say its for one unit only.
if you caught them and banned them then they,d just get it elsewhere without paying the sub.
you can stop the ebayers or try, i agree there scum charging but you wont and cant stop other forums etc from posting if a member here posts it. and ive seem and looked at your new file and i see nothing that could identify the original downloader. and i have looked at it good, seems an idle threat to stop users here sharing it, plus how would or should i say do you impliment it you must have thousands of downloads and thats everymonth that,d mean more work for you as you,d have to give an id to every download and do that every month,

Not sure if you realise the main point is that all who previously submitted cameras are entitled to free lifetime membership.
Anyone who submits cameras now knows about the £2 membership charge.
This has not stopped the submissions. In fact we are being inundated (thanks guys!) with cameras under the new system. Many of our brand new subscribers are also willingly and enthusiastically adding to the database.
As promised, the database has improved since we introduced the charge and it will continue to improve.
The demise of the community spirit as a result of the charge that some predicted did not materialise, in fact there appears to be an overall increase in that spirit if our emails, PMs and forum messages are anything to go by. The community together with the PocketGPSWorld.com team are committed to getting the database to as near 100% accuracy as possible. Yes, it's a challenge, but it's fun
Reading your posts I'm surprised that you both haven't applied for your free memberships yet.
I include below copyright information for the database which is very firmly base in law:

i have submitted some but i dont know if there acepted, plus i submitted some ages ago but under a different user name as i hadnt been here for ages id forgot what user name i used and which email i used, bs you may say but no, i moved house bought a laptop and jacked the pc, so any info i had went with the old pc. so i resigned back up just recently. i wasnt a poster as all i came here for was the database and to read threads of intrest to me(yes i use the search button instead of just posting away to get my info).
i,ll have to accept i wont get it has i have no proof of previous sumbmissions or even what i signed in as.
but then again i didnt think it would matter as i remember back them days it was suposed to be staying free.
funny how times change. from my experience aswell i dont think my new submissions will get me it as i think they may have been done, i was going off an old copy of the database where they were not shown. but my old ones went in im sure.
it would be nice to get it free seeing as i did contribute, but i still dont agree with the charges, if you,d said from the outset then nobody would have a problem with it, i think its the way you went about it rather than actually doing it.
like i said earlier not a personal attack but a personal view. thanks.
