Depends what you are looking for. I like the option of seperate warnings depending on speed and camera type, so I use the speed zoned version. If you are content with just a single warning, the same distance no matter what the camera type is, then go for the consolidated download option. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Another thing to point out with consolidated vs speed zoned is that with the speed zoned, the screen refresh rate is reduced with it having to look up more poi files. When I was using the database, the screen updated much more smoothly with the consolidated poi.
I use the TomTom database now though, which is only available in speed zones. |

Not true. The TomTom Cameras come in 3 Sets. Single, Consolidated and Speed Zoned. _________________ Richard

Where can I get the consoilidated? On the download page it only gives me the option to download a zip file, and when I open it, it has everything speed zoned - same if I update via the TomTom software on my PDA |

You get the Option in the second Drop Down Box, after you have chosen TomTom OV2 in the First Drop Down Box.

If you have Subscribed you are able to access these Options. _________________ Richard

That is easily solved. Just go into preferences and choose Hide POIs. That camera warnings will still come up because "Warn when near" is a different function to "show POIs". The latter can slow down the refresh rate on your screen, the former usually doesn't. _________________ Peter

Are we talking about the same database here? I'm subscribed to, and talking about the actual TomTom speed camera database, not the PocketGPSworld one - I don't use the PocketGPSworld one any more. When I choose download extras in TomTom on the PDA, it only allows me to download speed zoned files, and when I open the Speed Camera page in my account on TomTom website, it only has the option to download one zip file, and when opened, its got Speed Zoned files in it. |

I believe Oldboy thought you meant our database and not TomToms.
Just out of interest, why are you using tomtoms and not this one?? I would have thought that £19 per year in cheaper and withat least one update a month, this one would be more accurate?? _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

Hi Wilko,
I don't know whether many people here use the TomTom camera database.

I contributed quite a bit in the early stages of the pocket gps camera database back in the TomTom 2 and 3 days, and felt let down that my email requests for access went unanswered, so I purchased the TomTom subscription instead. Plus it has the added benefit that I can sit in my car on the drive, or in the main office, and use my WiFi networks, update the database, at the same time as downloading the traffic data from within TomTom, without having to bring it in and plug it into the computer. I've been pretty happy with it.
The TomTom database seems fairly complete, although there are a few errors which I've reported, its lightweight, and when you download it, they encrypt it to your device number so it can't be used on anyone elses device. |

|
|
Hi, I'm somewhat confused about the types of camera in the database
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/poicapture.php says "Note that we have included icons of the most common versions of the cameras. There are some cameras that will not look like these but will still be of the same type" . . .
But some warnings I get for M25 Gatso gantry cameras look like CCTV
And some warnings I get for Redlight cameras are the small cameras on top of the traffic lights that are surely to guard against jumping redlights ?
Your advice would be much appreciated |

Those are the type of cameras that the Redlight category is for. _________________ Peter

OK, thank you . .
. . but are you saying then that the standalone Redlight cameras (as per the icon on POI Capture) are also to catch drivers who jump red lights and not speeders |
