Excuse me for my rudeness but I need some info. fast,
Is the Magellan SporTrak good?
How much information can be stored in that 1MB build in memeory?
Would it be able to put in any add on memory, SD card?
Sorry to ask some basic information that you probably already known in the back of your mind, but I am still new on this and didn't find review in the site. Please help me out, I need the info. fast because my local store is having it for $99USD on sale, Thank you. |

SporTrak are good, but personally I find the Meridian's better from the point of view that they have removable SD card memory, and a Quad Helix antenna which brings in a better signal.
1mb really isn't a lot for maps, personally I would be looking at 16mb plus. |

I have had both, and would definitely recommend the Meridian, for the following reasons.
1/ It finds your position quicker (I think the processor is better or sometin)
2/ It has a bigger screen.
3/ The battery compartment doesn't jam (like the sportrak!)
4/ -And definitely the most important- It has space for an SD card!!
The cons compared to the sportrak are.
1/ Not as waterproof
2/ Slightly bigger (But still a nice size!)
3/ No wrist strap.
But the pro definitely out weigh the cons!

You're right, they do both have a Quad Helix, what I had meant to say was that the Meridian appears to have a better Quad Helix.
In a lot of my tests I've performed between the SporTrak and Meridian range, the Meridian has always brought in a better signal. This may be more down to electronics then antenna, but the perception is that the Meridian Quad Helix antenna is better, or better angled. |
