Nuvi 350 - Loves the back roads!

Had a tom tom 700, was too bulky, so last month I bought a Nuvi 350.

I'm using latest firmware (March) and also have ticked to avoid unpathed roads.

But my god does it love the back roads! To get to my girlfriends house is a direct A road, but OH NO! it doent want to take me down that, it sends me down a Z class road, only big enough to fit one car through, if you meet another car on the road you have to reverse all the way back up. And I wish it was just an isolated incidance, went to a new town over the weekend, A roads everywhere but Nuvi sticks me right out into the middle of nowhere. My friend who was with me from the area said it's the longest route imaginable!

Yes OK the Nuvi does get me there.... eventually, but why oh why all these backroads! The Tom Tom 700 was FINE, why is the Nuvi making my life hell!

It's OK when I'm in my landrover, but when it tried to do it to me in my GT3 RS I physically can't get down these roads! My car is so low! It's OK when you know the area, but when your completely lost you think it's taking you the right way.

I called Garmin, after being on hold for 34 minutes so arrogant idiot didn't want to know.

Nuvi is great I love the package, but sending me into the middle of nowhere, on roads so small you need a 4X4 to get down them is really starting to annoy!!

Have to agree with you there. Travel to a friends in Biddulph and the NUVI 300 uses the most unimaginable route out, which like you say you could only get down with a 4x4. Sad

Yes indeed, fastest route set on both the nuvi and the tom tom.

Comparing like for like. The Nuvi just loves off road adventures! Laughing

Have you got the v8 maps? Apparently these are better at classifying the roads so the Garmin won't route down so many country lanes. In v7 it often doesn't know the difference between a major road and a one track lane. :x

City Navigator Europe NT+ v8

So guess I'm running version 8 maps.

OK Dartford to New Ash Green, Kent.

On arriving in Longfield rather than going direct to New Ash Green on the A roads it takes me on a wild goose chase.

Next time I go I'll list road names.

Hi. Could it be that Garmin means "avoid paved roads" (where possible). I only got my 350 yesterday (first gps) so have not had time to try it yet. I live in southern Spain and do'nt fancy the idea of driving to the uk on dirt tracks, mind I used to do a bit of motor bike trials (I'll maybe take it up again), Damn, not supposed to use the 350 on a motorbike, it may rain.
