|
|
Hi Peeps,
I have a TomTom classic, and I have a very quick question that I hope someone can help me out with.
Since buying the GO in April last year I have never updated the maps that were orignally shipped with the TomTom. The main reason for this is I can never find on the TomTom website where to upgrade them or what version is avaliable?
Also how do I know once I update the latest maps that there not going to be updated again in a couple of weeks or months?
I did try and search on this very forum to see if anyone else had asked this question and I couldn't.
Thanks |

Cheers nazimyounis,
From the homepage there is no download link, The software side of things I have no problem updating. Its the map version I am trying to work out. I understand that you have to pay for the map upgrades. I am trying to find out how often the new maps are released and where the actual option is on the TomTom website.
After a bit more digging I did find the answer I think in the FAQ. Tomtom will email the registered users via a newsletter in the 2nd Quarter of 2006 with an option to upgrade the maps. So from this I can only assume that they upgrade the maps yearly?
The other thing is I couldn't tell what the version number of the maps were on the TomTom website either. |

For example If I go here.

How do I know that this version of the UK map is not newer than the one I have installed on my GO already?

If you haven't updated your Maps since last April, you can rest assured that the download Maps are more uptodate.
Whether it is worth buying Maps less frequently than yearly, will be argued about forever and a day. Well until the next update. 8O _________________ Richard

I emailed a question to TOMTOM support.
As I felt that it was fairly bad that a major piece of road infrastructure was
not accurate on the map...
London Stanstead Airport.. M11 & the New A120 from braintree.
This has been complete for now over a year and was not on my TTG300
that i brought a couple of weeks back..
Give the problems of the M11 being closed a few weekends ago, anyone with
a TTG would have been stuffed! (Granted, probably anyone with SatNav)...
And the reponsive I got was that a map 'upgrade' would, most likely, be available in may....
So does that mean we get a free UK Map upgrade.
or is it time to dig into the back of the sofa again looking for coinage?

agree about the Stanstead bit and the new A120 never been there before -- but last week found our selves travelling through Green fields for MILES with Tom desperately trying to get me back on track at every farm gate (poor soul)
I do hope the new maps come out shortly but I suppose it will be ££££ or even €€€€ again _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

Cheers for the replys peeps. From what I gather here TomTom release new maps round about May time. Although I haven't updated my TomTom maps at all since last April. The ones currently avaliable to download from TomTom are probably newer. If they bothered to put the map version number on the website then maybe I would know.
I think it would be silly of me to upgrade now if in May even newer ones are released.

I think last time we logged in to our TomtomGO site and purchased the new maps on line against our old product code and it came with an activation code. _________________ Happy to meet -- Sorry to part -- Happy to meet again |

Have you ever been to the TomTom website?
Admitedly , it's not the easiest site to find your way around, but it's not THAT hard to find:
Maps on SD card and CD
Downloadable maps.
Maps on cards do not require activation, downloadable ones do AFAIK. |

Normal is GB only to street level, Plus is GB street level plus major roads of Europe.
If you buy it as an SD card it will be pre-activated so it would be easier to copy everything else onto THAT casrd rather than copy the maps off it.
If you get a download map or a CD you would just copy the entire map folder over and say "yes" when Windows asks if you want to replace file/folders with the same name.
I have to admit, having glibly said above where to find the maps on the TomTom site, I can't actually find any Plus maps on there myself! |

Answering my own question, ITHINK I've worked it out....
The PLUS maps are what you find if you go to Products / pick one (even the 300!) / go to Accessories / Maps.
On the other hand if you go to PLUS Services, the country maps are the non-Plus ones!
Simple eh? |
