|
|
HI,
I've very recently bought ther Origin b2 and I am considering a Pocket PC (Ipaq?) in the future.
In addition to the special Origin cable, does anyone know what else I would need to utilse the Origin and Pocket PC for stellite navigation? I'm pretty lost on what you would need to utilise the GPS output.
Loking back, perhaps I should have got a Pocket PC, associated GPS kit and downloaded the some speed camera software - bit sick at the amount of money I could have saved.
Any help on the above would be very much appreciated by this novice.
Thanks for taking time to read,
Damian |

if you go for an origin b2 then you will need:
The GPS Data Out cable that is an extra cost option.
A PocketPC
A suitable navigation app e.g. TomTom Navigator on the PocketPC
This set-up whilst restricting you to in-car GPS gives you a superb all round package and you wopn't be dissappointed _________________ Darren Griffin |

Darren,
Thanks for the prompt response - hopefully things aren't as bad as they first seemed!
Would say, an Ipaq, need a further jacket/cable to link to the 'new' output port on the Origin? Would there be any kit you recommend for this and perhaps a decent mounting bracket foer in the car (Dashmount?).
I don't know much about PDAs, but would you need some form of memory expansion to fit TomTom software - is this the best Pocket PC software by the way?
Thanks for you help again - much appreciated :D

I'm not sure what format the output cable will be, it may be a custom cable to suit each specific PocketPC or simply a serial cable in which case you need a serial cable from the PocketPC manufacturer and a null modem adapter to link the two cables, either way you woon't need any additional jacket, most PocketPC's (with one or two notable exceptions) have the serial port connector on their base.
As for suitable mounts, IMHO there is only one worth having, Brodit's with a ProClip to suit your vehicle, see our reviews on the GPS Accessories page. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Have spoken to Origin today and the release of the new output for the Origin b2 has been delayed until 1st quarter 2004. Thee cost will be around £50, but no guarantees on realease date. |

That's disappointing to hear. I'll give Origin a call tomorrow and see why it's been delayed. _________________ Darren Griffin |

They say it's been delayed because the Origin b2 has been so successful and they have been working flat out on that !!
There was a meeting on Monday afternoon, so you may get a better time idea now, rather that end of quarter one, that is so vague |

Would using PDA and Sat Nav via the Origin B2 be as accurate and as good as using a RoyalTek Sat Nav Anttena etc? |
