|
|
I'm changing my car on Friday. It appears the new model has an athermic windscreen so I'll need to order an external antenna. I have looked all over the unit but, for the life of me, can't see where to plug the darned thing in! Is it the usb port? |

I would hold fire, if I were you - the 269(+) has an outstanding record of grabbing satellites where many others fail, including behind athermic and (Ford) heated screens. |

Hi
If the Mio 269+ is the same as the Mio 269 then the socket is on the back top right hand corner. It is a small brass hole.
Cheers

Thanks. that's put my mind at rest, somewhat.
Everything seemed to being going hunky-dory as the Peugeot 307 audio spec makes provision for an accesory audio lead, allowing the connection of a pda or mp3 player. The socket is a standard 3.5mm fitting so I should be able to connect the 269+ using the lead (£5) and get much better voice instruction as a result.
Then, when I got home and read up on the spec on the car, I noticed that the front windscreen was athermic and that there might therefore be a problem.
And you're right: the new SirFstar 3 chip in this unit is incredibly sensitive. When I first saw I was still getting satallite reception inside the house I thought the unit was kidding me on, but it was a genuine lock. |

Nope, nothing there. Interesting. When I bought the plus model I wondered why some 269's came bundled with an exterior antenna, and others didn't. Know I now.
No problem. If, when I try it, reception is iffy I'll just have to invest in a re-radiating unit. |

I have the 268+, which has the same type of connector as Gerry has on the 269. On the back of the unit, at the top right hand corner, you should have a small rubber cover, underneath there is the external antenna connector. See page 8 of the 269+ User Manual which shows you where the connector is. |

Thanks, Lee. I owe you a pint, mate. You've just saved me about fifty quid. :D Sounds crazy, but for some reason I had tagged that as the hard re-set switch. These 'senior moments' are coming more and more often...
Just heading off to collect the new car. I'll post later to let you know how well the 269(+) handles an athermic windscreen.
Thanks again. |

For those that are interested, an athermic windscreen makes no noticeable difference to reception as far as the Mio 269(+) is concerned. |

Glad we saved you some money!! As far as I can tell the 268/269 range ALL operate quite happily behind athermic and heated front screens. |

There's appears to be no degradation of signal at all. I can still get 8 -11 birds, which is great.
I collected the new car on Friday and was disapointed to find that the MP3 audio connection is only availabale on certain models.
It's a pity, as the required socket only costs pennies to manufacture and would have made a world of difference to the audio quality of spoken instructions, particularly at motorway speeds.
But I can see the relevant section of wiring harness tucked away inside the glove compartment. It should be easy enough to make the necessary changes... |
