You're probably right, however when I added text to the picture of your dog it was done in the Paint.net programme, not my MGI Photosuite.
I also loaded an old copy of Adobe Photoshop 6.0 and tried that but I don't get how to "stick" the text, when I try to save it with text the text is never there, I just get a fuzzy wavy white line around the text that I can't do anything with! ... but I don't really know how to use Photoshop.
I used a programme that came with Photoshop, Imageready I think it's called or something like that, and that "sticks" the text but it still won't work on the i3. |

Well ........ did another one in paint.net, downloaded to the i3 ... progress bar and all appeared well; switched off and back on and nothing, just the original i3 screen.
Tried again, repeating the download 3 times in succession before switching off and low and behold when I switched off and back on, this time it was there!
I have no explanation. |

Changed it several times now with no problems at all - seems like it needed a kick start! |

Okay just when you thought this thread had died.....
I cannot get this to work on the new I3 that Garmin have sent me (replacement for one with a dodgy speaker). It worked fine on my old version - which incidentally had V8 maps - the "new" one has V7. (the card is winging its way back to Garmin as we speak).
So is it possible there is an old version of the firmware which doesn't allow you to change the splash screen.
Basically I only get the option to download screen shots and not the splash screen. I don't get the option to upload anything!
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks. |

As you mention you have sent the card of for the map upgrade are you trying this without your transflash card present? That might be the problem, not sure if the splash screen is stored there or on internal memory. _________________ Chas

Nope - I tried it before I took the transcard out. |

Not sure how to post a pic but here goes, resized it with hp image zone, saved as Splash Screen.bmp and it loaded straight onto splash screen, both loaded with no probs and have saved original splash screen.

Hi all. My first post.
Just downloaded and tried out xImage. Result below.
Worked first time for me.
Oh, and it's my car by the way. More pics and stuff at

The black strip at the bottom's for the copyright info on the splash.

Having experimented, I found out how much of the image is occupied by the copyright message. It's the bottom 38 rows of pixels. So, while the bitmap needs to be 220x176 pixels, it's only the top 220x138 portion doesn't get obscured by the copyright text. |
