Hi All,
I got myself an i3 last week. I'm really impressed with it. Straight away i loaded the speed camera database.
The only gripe i had was that you couldn't alter the alert distance - or so i thought!
Using the new POI Loader from Garmin which accepts GPX files, and I little application which I wrote you can easily alter the alert distances to whatever you want.
This is done by converting the CSV files into GPX files, for which Garmin have written their own 'extensions' to allow more options per POI. One of these options is the alert distance!
You can download my converter application from http://www.cbrom.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
This has now made my i3 even better!! |

Doh!
You can see the Default Alert Speed x mph under the bottom right hand corner of the ImageShack QuickShot box. |

Perhaps i'm being stupid. Can someone point out what i've missed please. What does this application do that the Manual option in POI Loader doesn't?
I'll admit that it's a very clever app to convert from csv to gpx but can't see the point when POI Loader does it for you. And csv files are easier to edit / add to... |

Quote: | It has been discussed here before, BUT using the manual method has no effect on the settings, even if you change them as you load the files because the file name and the format of the .csv take priority over manual entry. |
Ah! I see. I'll RTFM then..... |

thanks cbrom, a very useful routine.
I like your webpage. I use blueyonder. Do you know of any simple guides of how to set up my own? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

StellaMaris,
It took me a few attempts to understand your question but i think i got it. My application reads the speed from each entry within the .csv file (the @20 bit) whether consolidated or not. From the screen shots on my site you can only see one speed and distance, but infact there are 7 different speeds that the program looks for from 20 to 70 mph. Depending upon which speed each entry is, the alert distance is set for that entry.
I hope this answers your question.
Beerbellybill999,
It's very easy knock up a site with blueyonder, you just go to sitebuilder.blueyonder.co.uk. The hard work is done for you - you only have to add the content! |

you can also use the shorter url of: http://cbrom.myby.co.uk/
never been advertised but it's shorter than cbrom.pwp.blueyonder...

cbrom - couple of things (again)
1) any chance of being able to select more than one csv file at a time?
2) i noticed in the gpx file (opened in notepad) the following code:
Code: | *wpt lat="51.61191" lon="-0.08645"*
*name*GATSO:2755@40*/name*
*extensions*
*WaypointExtension xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtensions/v2 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GpxExtens...2.xsd"*
*Proximity*365.853658536585*/Proximity*
*/WaypointExtension*
*/extensions*
*/wpt* |
i had 40mph set at 1200 feet (which is approx 365.85...meters) - now, even though the speed is set in mph will the i3 know to convert the 365 back up to feet from meters or will it end up using 365feet?
also, are the URL's in the xml needed? it's just that it makes the file a heck of a lot bigger (i.e. from 76kb to 922kb in the gatso 30 file)...
excellent program though :D
MaFt
ps - i had to change the xml code cos it wouldn't let me post it... |

The Garmin Specification for the proximity element is specified in metres, so they convert it back into feet.
As for the xml in the gpx files, the POI Loader won't load them unless it is present.
I'm going to have a look at loading multiple files and fix the spelling typo's!
I'm glad you liked the app - i can't believe there hasn't been something to do the job already though! _________________ Garmin Nuvi 310T V9 Maps
