Sorry guys another question..
Is there a way for TTN5 to warn you if you are over the speed limit on the road you are on with out the Speed camera POI.. for example if you are on a 30mph road and the TT detects that you are doing 33mpg is there a way for it to tell you with a noise.
Cheers for all the help |

Nope, or at least not at present. To do that it would need to know the speed limit on every road in the country and that sort of info is just not recorded or stored on the present maps. _________________ Peter

i think it is not that complicated after all! because destinator 3 had it or has it!
so it is possible. it is a pity tt5 have not done that. |

In order to do it the map being used has to have a record of every speed limit in the country. How else would it know that you are exceeding the speed limit unless it knows what that limit is? AFAIK the maps used by TT do not record that info and never have.
I don't know the Destinator 3 software. What maps does it use?
The nearest TT5 gets to this is that it can switch the screen display off above a certain speed., which you can set. However that speed depends on what you set, not on what the speed limit of the road you are on. _________________ Peter

Try GPS Speed Sentry - you can set this to warn above selectable speeds, although to use it with TomTom you will need to share the GPS signal (Fransons GPS Gate) for WM2003SE, also configure your hardware buttons so you switch between the applications - Mike |

So how does it work then, and what does it show ? Assuming that I'm doing a nice steady 32mph in a 30 area, is it going to continually bug me? ...in which case , I for one would not be interested. |

TomTom maps do record the speed limit, at least near enough they do. Try running one of the demos and you'll see that they keep to the speed limits (plus a little bit)
However the data is nowhere near 100% accurate and considering the legalities of the situation they aren't likely to let people use it. What happens when the speed limit is wrong or has been changed and someone sues TomTom because they weren't warned. |

Mark
I thought the average speed used by TT when calculating a route was determined by the type and class of road, rather than the speed limit. So urban/suburban/rural and minor/A class/B class/unclassified etc. Or have I got that wrong?
In fact in TT3 wasn't it possible to set the speeds you wanted to for these types of road, or have I got that wrong too? I don't know for sure because I haven't used it but I thought I have read complaints from TT3 users that that option was not available in TT5. _________________ Peter

Navigon 5 shows the speed limit in the top left hand corner for major routes (motorways / trunk roads not all A roads). Generally these are pretty accurate but obviously when the local authority changes a speed limit these are not updated. The software can be set to warn if your speed passes this (or a user set ammount above).
I find this useful occasionally but would not trust them to be 100% accurate so I only use them with caution.
Legally I would have thought their would be enough get out clauses to avoid Navigon being sued and I am certain it would be no defence in court. |

Yes, but I never used it, ETA's were pretty accurate. I believe caravanners found it more useful. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property
