As an update for anyone wanting an alternative mount for their i3, I have used the 17mm balls from Mr Gonzales together with a Brodit Pro-Clip for my Saab 9-5. It works just great.

I have drilled through the Pro-Clip and used a 6mm by 25mm screw, washer and nut. The 17mm ball screws onto the end so the i3 sits about 15mm proud of the Pro-Clip. This seems to be about the right height allowing easy positioning (can be seen from passenger seat if required). It also allows the i3 to be easily removed by angling all the to the maximum travel and it just pops off. A very neat soluion.

I will try and post some pics later.

Total cost £5 for 2 x balls (I have a spare), £15.99 fro the Pro-Clip and a few pence for the screws.

I have also managed to make one very similar for my Mark 2 MX5. Used the balls from Mr G (nice work fella :D ) a dashmount bracket and a found a screw from a kids climbing frame the worked (TP tys i think --- Rolling Eyes

okay it was all I had that worked) and then used some nylon lock nuts to provide a secure fix up screw to ball joint - - so go on give it a try

I've been waiting for a reply from Mr_Gonzales for a few days now, seems that he's not about that much. Maybe he's too busy making mounts? Having purchased Ram mount kit for my bike I now need him to make a Ram ball to i3 ball adaptor, I'll a little stuck if he's disappeared Crying or Very sad

I went for the Ram option as it's quickly detachable leaving nothing sticking out and offers a good range of adjustability to cater for my expanding tank bag whilst not obscuring the instruments too much.

Hi all, Regarding mr gonzale`s balls I have ordered two off him and want to get some bolts whilst I am at the shops after. I take it the size I need to get is 6mm x whatever length I need, can someone confirm this before I go if possible. Just like to have everything ready for when I get them.

i guess i shall have to get up earlier to post an item before you.

i have wiped the sweat off my brow as i have already manufactured my mount ready for mr.g's balls Laughing

using an m6 x 50mm bolt fastened to a fixed airvent, then casually beaten with a large hammer until approx 40 degrees.

Sorry Matb, we must be on the same wavelength, got some nuts and bolts while we were out, have you noticed you cant have one of anything anymore , you have to buy a whole packet of ten or twenty.

I have ordered one of these from ebay, bit pricey but we will see what it is like when it comes. The idea is to fit the bolt / ball onto this and then it will be quite neat and easily viewable for me and my navigator aka the wife. See what you think.

makes my 12p bolt, washer and nut seem a little inadequate.

i went to the local ironmonger/ chippy where you can still buy in singles. only had a tenner on me so he gave me the bolt etc, with a promise i would come back to the shop in the future, and buy something else for 12p above asking price.

Your showing your age again mat, no doubt if I had waited till we went somewhere decent I would have found a proper ironmongers, they wont go to waste anyway. I thought with this setup I can run the cables into the glove compartment and then just feed the amount I need through to the i3, make a hole in it to fit the bolt with mr gonzales`s ball on it and a small hole for the cables to run through and attach them to the i3.

We shall see anyway.
