|

I had an unexpected outcome to a dead battery on my A201(WM5). I recharged the battery enough to turn on the unit. When I did, the A201 showed the Mio splash screen and then proceed to load software (from where, I don't know). During the loading process, it displayed a horizontal loadling status bar that, when completed switched to the standard WM5 display. The added programs, including TOMTOM Nav 5 where there and when executed worked perfectly.
My question is does WM5 have an auto back-up feature that backs up not only base software, but added software as well. If the is the case, the need for a 3rd party back-up program has just deminished.
Thanks in advance

This is exactly what WM2005 should do as all data is stored in ROM style memory, i.e. non-volatile so a power outage shouldn't affect the data loaded - I still use a back-up but its not been needed as yet - Mike |

Mike,
Thanks for the response. Nice to know the back up feature is there (& works) in WM5. Do you know if the data (& applications) stored in ROM would remain after a hard reset. If it does, I assume that the need for a back up program would be to restore if a program and configurations were corrupted on the PDA. Is this correct/
Regards,

If you do perform a "Hard Reset" then that is exactly what will happen - back to the same state the device was in when it came out of the box, so back-up software is still of use with the 2005 devices the hard storage just prevents the power outage loss of programs, which are more frequent than the need for a full hard reset - Mike |
