|
|
Hi everyone, hope you can help me, I`m a lady in distress!
A while ago I purchased a HP Ipaq 1710 with Tom Tom Navigator, it has 2.24 or something as the software version.
The thing is, its very out of date, sooo many roads and stuff missing I need to upgrade it.
This may sound daft, (I know nothing about gadgets), but what do I need to do?!!
It has the UK maps & POI, but I travel to Europe at least once a month so maps of France, etc: would be handy as I have to resort to the old traditional AtoZ.
I`m so confused, even looking on the tom tom website hasnt helped.
Can I send it away to be upgraded? Do I hook it up to the internet and download something?
To coin a phrase, I`m lost without it....
Any help or advise would be great.
Thanks soo much, hope you can happy a dizzy blonde!
best wishes

there was an ugrade to european maps but this ended in november which would have ment you could have taken tomtom5 maps of western europe for around £50
how ever the only thung to do now is to visit one of the retailers from this site from the home page on the right hand side of some resellers that will sell you a version of tomtom navigator 5 unles you feel youd like to change software to another brand _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. If you are happy with Tom Tom then upgrade to Tom Tom Navigator 5. As Alix says you can buy it from any of the suppliers advertising here. You can get one with maps of Europe, os you can buy the GB maps and French maps only. Don't get one bundled with a receiver as you can use your existing receiver.
Follow the instructions and install and away you go. _________________ Peter

Thats Great, thanks so much for your help.
Ive had a look on ebay and the version 5 software+ european maps seems like a good bundle.
Though I read on an earlier posting that I need a 512 SD card as my other is just too small at 256?
Ive ordered the card from crucial memory for just under £20.
Thanks to you both, and thanks for a great site.
Its been a great help
best wishes

Just be careful you don't end up with an illegal copy which will cause you more heartache than it's worth. There's a lot of it about (S.Milligan). _________________ Garmin 2360LT

Thats spooky how you mention that, there was a seller today who had tomtom 5 for £10, and looked tonight and now all the listings have gone..
I assume that he/she was selling illegal copies, ?!
It said in small print "that this is a backup CD for your original tomtom software" or the like...
Back to the drawing board!
Thanks again!

please pleass don't buy any navigation software off ebay (ok I know there a legitimate seller on there) but the majority of sales of tomtom on ebay are copies or illeagal (cracked versions). the best thing to do is to go somewhere like www.easydevices.co.uk , www.totalpda.co.uk , www.expansys.com are some of the legitimate sellers there are others out there or you could contact navex who's opened a shop and is giving a discount to forum members, yes you will pay more but, you will beable to use traffic should you wish, you will be able to get discouts on updated verions ( I going off previous experience here) and you know it will work _________________ currently using aponia truck navigation on windows phone. Thats great, I`ll give it a whirl nearer payday!
One other quick question (dont mean to be a pain!), but when my ipaq powers off, it also shuts down tom tom & POI which means that when I power it back up, I then need to go through the whole process of chosing my destination etc:
Is there a way the when it powers down, then back up - that tom tom remains & resumes from where it left off??
Ive gone through the menus but cant see anything....
Its not a massive problem, but can be a pain the the *** on stops etc:!!
any help would be great,,,, and sorry if I sound daft, Ive only just figured out how the microwave works.!!
Thanks gents
