I believe that the ONE comes with a paltry 32MB SD card, pre-installed with just the one map, so my question is: is there a maximum size of SD card that this device will take, i.e. a 1GB SD card (which I can manually load with loads of other maps, voices, POIs etc...) ?

Also, would this device accept extra maps, voices, POIs etc that I may wish to put on this new larger SD card?

You probably wanted to ask if there is a maximum size.

As far as I know it has been tested successfully with 4 GB SD cards.

It's the Internal Memory that is 32MB. The SD Card will be 128MB. Still not big enough to load extra Maps.

Also TT can only 'see' 39 Add-In POI Groups, although the POI's within each Group is limited only by the available memory on the Card.

One more thing. Please keep the original SD Card as a Backup.

1) I'm a novice at these things...can you please give me some examples of POIs (of which I'm only allowed 39).

2) Is there a limit to the amount of different voices and/or maps that I can permanently load onto the TT ONE?

3) Do speed cameras count as POIs?

4) Does the TT ONE allow you to make hands-free phone calls via the bluetooth connection (with a compatible bluetooth phone) ?

Petrol Stations, DIY Stores, Eating Places. Anything where a Group of locations have been compiled into an OV2 File, can be used on a TomTom.

I don't know if there is a limit on how many voices TT can handle. Space on the SD Card is one limiting factor as each one takes about 1MB. Several Maps can also be loaded (I have 6 on my SD Card), but once again you will need a bigger SD Card to be able to load more Maps. As an example GB is about 100MB and France is 250MB.

Each Speed Camera Group counts as a POI. If you use all the Full Speed Zoned Set that counts as 23 for GB.

The quickest answer - No.

Whilst on the subject of SD card sizes.... does it matter to the Tom Tom device, whether a high speed card is used or not. I have seen cards marked as 64x or 133x and wondered if it was necessary. There seems to be quite a price difference dependant on the speed rating. Rolling Eyes

Thanks Old Boy. I forgot to mention that I am using a TTOne and not a GO. Does that matter or are the same SD cards compatible ? Secondly, can I confirm that High Speed Cards are not required ? Is there any significant advantage in using these over standard SD Cards ?[/quote]

I would say that if it works with the GO it will work with the ONE.

As to High Speed I would say that some makes of cards only work if they are of the High Speed Type.

High speed is a relative term. A few years back, 8x were 'high speed'.
Eventually 33x came out and were called high speed, last year it was 66x and then 80x, now apparently its 128x, no doubt in a year or two 128x will be slow and people will be buying (and paying more for) high speed 500x because they dont think the 128x is fast enough, even though a much slower card would be fine.

My Viking card works with no issues, i believe its a '66x', or by another measure, is 2Mb xfer speed, and Im sure any card you bought would be fine, if only because its unlikely you'll be able to buy anything slower than about 33x these days.

I sell sd cards for a living. The speed is the write speed. You shouldn't spend the extra cash if you're only using it for your tomtom. The real advantage of a 133x card is for shooting hi-res images on a high end digicam.

Oops, doing myself out of potential commission here!
