|
|
I have just purchased a TTG500 and am concerned that it may have old maps. I have not yet broken the seal on the SD card so could probably return it if necessary. I believe that the latest map version is 6.32, how can I tell what maps I have without breaking the seal? There is a number on the box from the SD card that says 2D00.561.5201. My concern is that that 5201 at the end may be saying that I have version 5 maps rather than 6 and that I am in for an immediate upgrade cost.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Hi CRH
I'm not sure how you can tell without opening the box.... although if you're not happy I would just take it back and buy it from somewhere else to be on the safe side. Alternativley take it back to the shop and ask them to open it and confirm to you it's the latest version.
Hope this helps.... _________________ Thanks,

Products pre-installed with firmware v5.201 contained the v5xx maps.
The newer v6xx maps come preinstalled with v5.410.
The map you have is not the latest, but I would not say you MUST upgrade immediately at full cost. The maps are usable. I'd wait for the next upgrade programme. TomTom normally starts such an upgrade every year in May, often announced during CeBit (March). Then you can buy new maps for a discounted price. _________________ GO1005

You may be jumping to conclusions there.
I'd find it hard to believe that anyone is still selling units with 5.201 on.
The reference number on the box may just be coincidental. |

Wazza G - can you have a look at the part number code on the SD card packaging, to see if its the same as CRH's in the first post above? |

I have a Go500 with Map v605 which was purchased in January.
Is v606 just the Go700 Map?
I am asking because there are LOTS of places missing on the map I have which has made itr next to useless and TomTom have not yet come up with a sollution. |

I decided to break the seal on the card and start using it. The firmware is version 5.201 and the maps are version 5.71. I am dissapointed but it looks as though I will have to pay to upgrade or use the slightly older maps.
Had I had been able to see the map version on the box before buying I would have purchased from somewhere else, even if that had been more expensive. I cant think of another situation where I would not be able to know what I was buying.
Having said that, I am so far very impressed with the TTG 500 which is so much better than the NavMan 510 I used to have. |

Try it and see if the maps are OK for you. The upgrades don't seem to have much extra info. And if you find bits missing the newer maps might still not have those bits.
There may be a cheaper upgrade option (as opposed to buying new maps) in the Spring. There was last year, but who knows for certain. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Please try to use the right terminology. The map build is 571 (no dot in between) . Higher map builds do not necessarily mean better maps, so this discussion is somewhat moot/mute. _________________ Lutz

Sorry, it is v571.
Still, if version 632 (or maybe higher) is available, someone buying a unit with 571 is bound to feel hard done by. In view of the cost of updating, most people would want to be sure they had the latest version at the time of purchase or at least have the right and ability to download the latest version. |

Hi,
I've just fired up my 500 (new today) and the maps are v605. Doesn't TomTom provide upgrades.. seem a bit nasty after shelling out loads of english pounds on a product - however I did get 6 months Traffic for free (which turned into 12 months after using the activation code???).
