Hi,
Im new to the world of sat nav but have been drawn to it as it takes the stress out of driving.
Anyway, I'm looking at the Tom Tom range, and especially the Tom Tom GO ONE, and the Tom Tom 300. I have chosen these because I am only going to use it in the UK and like the speed camera ability.
I cannot however find any advantages over the two systems and apart from a £50 price difference cannot find any differences. i still find myself drawn to the 300 but am unsure why.
Any thoughts please
Also, I am interested in the speedcamera capabilities but would like to know how up to date they will be. There is a new speedcamera set up on my way to work and i would like an audiable warning just so I dont forget about it and check my speed. However this camera has only been errected in the last 2 months. Would it be on the database or is there any way of me adding it to my own database.
I have a 2002 renault clio and after reading some posts about authermic windscreens in renault meganes am rather concerned that the unit would not work correctly or indeed at all, is there any way of finding out before buying the unit.
Also any other NEWBIE advise is more than welcome.
Many Thanks |

Can't answer on the differences between TT One and 300.
The speed camera database is updated by the members. As from next month you will be charged for it (£2 per month or £19 per year) but you get a free month's subs if you are the first to report a new camera position. Most people report it is much more up to date than any other camera database - I certainly have never had the chance to report a new camera position because all the ones I see are on it.
Suggest you have a read first of the Stickies in the camera forum.
Reference your windscreen - suggest you ask your Renault dealer if you have a heat reflecting one. If so do a search of the forums to get some advice about it - note some people are confused - the heated front windscreens (mainly Ford) are fine - it is the special reflective coating on some that are the problem. _________________ Peter

The GO 300 has the better speaker and battery runtime, the ONE has the far superior GPS receiver. I would recommend the ONE if you plan to power it from the car battery most of the time. _________________ Lutz

Unless you have a VERY loud car the speaker is more than loud enough on the ONE. It even adjusts it's volume according to car speed. It's also slimmer than the GO and has a far better GPS receiver meaning you'll get a faster and more accurate fix.
The only thing I can see in the GO's favour is that you don't have to plug in the power lead every time as this plugs into the mount, other than that the ONE is far superior.

You can send details of the location of the camera to pocketgps and they will add it to the database, so it shouldn't be any more than 1 month before it gets added to the official release. In the meantime, yes, you can make your own temporary additions.

My girlfriend has a Y-reg Renault Clio and the ONE works extremely well. |

And I have a 2004 Renault Megane with athermic windscreen and the RIDER (essentially a waterproof ONE without a built-in speaker) fine in it, too. _________________ Tim |

Thanks for the replies
Why is the One better than the 300 when it is cheaper, this doesnt really make logical sense to me.
is the software on both the 300 and the ONE the same, ie the way that it works and displays the data. (apart from the ONE having a better GPS reciever)
I also understand that the POI capture doesnt currently work on the go, Is this how you add a speecamera to the device and then to the database or is there another method.
Many Thanks,
Im looking to buy one or the other this weekend! |

Sorry slight mistake
I ment to say:
I understand that the POI capture doesnt currently work on the ONE does this mean I cannot add cameras to the database? |

you can add cameras, just not using POICapture. You can use the standard functions on the ONE (Add POI) and then send use the OV2 file. _________________ Lutz

I think it is specifically statics that get you the free months Peter, but I'll stand corrected by any of the team.

It's exactly the same.

POICapture allows you to do capture with few taps. You can still do this on the ONE and GO, just go, Preferences , Manage POI , Add POI , [Choose the speed camera category] , GPS Location, then give it a name. Obviously that's quite a lot so not something you want to do while driving. |

Dave,
I think that is what I think said - one month's free subs for every report (if you are the first and once it has been verified and included on the database) _________________ Peter
