hi
i am new to the forums, i have finally got myself a Toshiba e350 PDA
( i know its not new but it was a bargain)
It has Tomtom 2 installed on it, i have not really used it that much so far,
only really set up the bits in the car.
should i maybe think of updating to Tomtom 5 or a newer version of tomtom or is tomtom 2 a good version to learn from.
if you have any feedback or know of anything i should look out for with tomtom2 please let me know.
many thanks |

Hi edmond,
to the forum!
TomTom Navigator 2 is a good 2½ years old. The last version of 2.xx (which I think was 2.24) was quite stable. The TomTom Navigator 2.xx application was good for its time and I can't remember much of a change (in the application) when 3.xx was introduced.
However the real issue will be the old maps. As I’ve already said, TomTom Navigator 2 is over 2½ years old, which means that its map data will be at least 3 years old, if not more for some areas. You’ll probably notice a lot of errors.
TomTom Navigator 5.210 is the latest version. Give your TomTom Navigator a try and if you wish to up grade then buy a version of TomTom Navigator 5.

As TomTom Navigator 2 is so old, you may not find 2.24 on the TomTom website.
What version of 2.xx are you currently running?

Yes the product code is printed in the CD case (under or below the CD itself) on some sticky tape.
Last year, TomTom generously offered an upgrade to version 5 from genuine versions of 2 and 3. It was a surprise that they offered an upgrade for version 2, as version 3 was the previous version to version 5.
I think that you will have to buy a new copy of Navigator 5.

Hi Edmond
Yes, I'm afraid that you are too late for the upgrade to TT5. If you want the latest edition you will have to raid the money box. _________________ Tomtom Go 720.

Hi there Edmond
Just browsing and saw your mesage. Just to let you know TT5 will NOT work on your Toshiba e350. TT3 will if you can find a copy but as mentioned before the maps will be out of date. Mind you they are not up todate in 5 ether as you'll see if you flick through this fourm.

if i buy a 2nd hand version of tomtom version 3
do i need to register it, or can i just overwrite tomtom 2?
or is it a case of once you have loaded tomtom 3 onto a PDA it can only be used on that PDA? |

Hi edmond,
All legitimate versions of TomTom Navigator must be registered to work.
If you buy a second-hand TTNav 3, then the chances are that the previous owner used the TTNav 3 product code in order to purchase the discounted upgrade to TTNav 5. If that is the case then the TTNav 3 CD and product code are useless because TomTom would have barred the TTNav 3 product code from ever activating again.

what if the product code of tomtom 3 was not used to upgrade to tomtom 5, would i be able to use the product then?
or can one product be only used on 1 PDA? |

Hi edmond,
Keep away from fleabay!
How can you guarantee that any second-hand TomTom Navigator product code has not been used to active a product or has not been used to upgrade to a newer version?
It’s easier (possibly cheaper) just to buy the TTNav 5 software from a reputable retailer than to try to get it on the cheap from a potentially dubious source.

Hi edmond,
I’m only trying to help!
If TTNav 5 will not run on your Toshiba e350, then you have two choices:
1. Buy a PocketPC that can run TTNav5.
2. Leave things as they are.
I’m sure that you would not be able to buy a sealed legitimate copy of TTNav3 any more. If you buy one from eBay it will either be a hacked one, or the product code will have been already used and you will not be able to activate TTNav on your PDA.

Hi edmond,
If you go to Map | File | About, and it says TomTom Navigator 3.00, then you have TTNav 3.00.
When you bought the Toshiba e350 PDA, did it already have TTNav installed on it or did you install TTNav after you got it?
Where did you buy the PDA from, was it eBay by any chance?
