Hi,
I just got some custom voices for TTn5 (Buffy, darth vader, homer...), and although they come with avatar bitmaps (24 bit) that work on the mobile phone version of tomtom they don't show up on my PPC version.
To install the voices I have created a 'Voices' folder on the root of the storage card and put all the .chk, .vif, and .bmp files in there. They don't show in the application though. So I then copied the files into the /tomtom folder from the root of my device. They do show up in the 'Select a voice' screen now. but the info is way off, the gender is not appropriate most of the time and there is no avatar. I could cope with the 'Special xx' tag if the images were there.
Any thoughts? |

Just checking- do you also have 'tomtom' folder in the root of the storage card, the 'voices' folder in the root of the sd card will not work properly without it _________________ rabdo

Where did you get the voices? Free?
Your problem may be the size of the BMP. I've been trying to change the MENU BMPs in Nav5 for PPC. Suggested sizes have been 80 X 50 and 72 X 48 but neither work. I've also tried different colr depth possibilities and folder locations.
I'm thinking that the size might be critical and different across paltforms.
I just checked and I can't see add-on voice BMPs on my Pocket PC either. Two are 160 X 160 and one is 100 X 100. |

The only time I have noticed the text gets mixed up relative to the actual file is when you use POIExtend to increase the number of warning voices available in TTN but the pictures allways corespond so it doesn't matter too much (to me anyway), try adding the voice skins from www.tomtomsatnav.info and see if these work, if they don't then your install must be corupt in someway, if they do work then I think you need to question the source of your voices you installed in the first place, they did come from a legitimate source didn't they? - cheers Mike |

Sorry to sound shady but I got the voices off the web, just did some searcing and found a few. Thought I'd give them a go. Though they aren't very good, just not clear enough.
Woo Hoo!
Rabdo was right!!! I just needed to add a 'tomtom' folder to my storage card (512MB SD, need bigger!) and everything works.
No Idea why though, I guess tomtom scan the storage area for a tomtom filder _then_ look further if one exists. It does take longer to start TTN now but I'm happy!
Thanks chaps :D |
